Are You a Petrolhead

Featured Replies

I thought I start a poll to see what sort of demographic we had here on Brisky. It

I'd like to think I'm pretty well into cars but just mainstream everyday stuff, I don't really go much on Ferarri thingy wotsits or Lambo doodah's.

Where's the 105 octane option?

There

I came to the site looking for advice on buying an Octy, but I’m a bit of a petrol/dieselhead at heart.

Me too, now look what the've done to me.

Jabbasport remap,

green panal filter,

fully polybushed suspension,

by the way can't find the poll.

.

Ah there it is (must have replied too quickly.)

I'm a petrolhead at heart (or do I mean head? ), but times are hard so I have to make do with being a dieselhead for the time being

There's isn't an option for "I'm a hydrocarbon head who's enjoying the craic too"! ;)

I would love something with a big torquey petrol engine, but with fuel at over £1/litre up here, my wallet prefers a torquey turbo-diesel!

Lawnmower

cement mixer

Astra sxi

garden heater(well parrafin)

Kawasaki VN800 Cruiser

Don’t worry, there’s light at the end of the tunnel, a nice long tunnel, one with shiny, reverberant walls that echo the sound of a big block V8 as it thunders towards the exit mouth……………….. YIKES, it’s catching!!

ps -but my names not Anthony

Don

I'm a total petrol head (all sort of things lying about - V6's, V8's etc).

But am forced through my job to drive a diesel, so in typical 'me' fashion even do that with an ST tdci!!

Given the choice I'd plump for petrol every time, alas fuel economy is quite important in my game!

Bit of both selected - used to trash the cr*p out of petrols until I got one with a reasonable size engine, but then that died as it was a Renault 21 so it had to overheat eventually

Gone over to the derv side due to work, and I do like it. Mild tweaking has occurred to get a more usable rev range though, I'd have to admit :D

My approach to cars is more of a 'whatever is the right tool for the job'. If I lived nearer to the office and didn't have to travel so far I would go for a petrol. SWMBO has a petrol, and it just works better on short distances. My derv is excellent as a cruiser on the motorway :)

Yes i guess im really starting to become a petrol head..............ah well may aswell just buy into it and be done with it......oh no! hehehehehehe

Find diesel goes down smoother - petrol a bit raw on the back of the throat, and I have to watch it if I light up.

It

Its a genetic thing, honest. My Father was a petrolhead, my Grandfather was a petrol head and I have merely followed in their footsteps. Fast cars and bikes throughout the family have been the norm over the years.

I recall one particular moment when I realised it was just a family trait. I had gone to my Grandfathers house at Burnham on Crouch for a visit, driving my modified Mk II Cavalier. The totally standard looking car had a fair turn of speed (1/4 mile in the mid 15s was good in the late 1980s) and suspension / brake / tyre upgrades to match.

My Grandfather was getting on by then, barely able to walk and really going downhill fast in his last summer. Seeing the car, he declared a drive out to see how it went would be nice. As we pottered reasonaly serenely about the Essex countryside, he said to me "Nice enough, but lets see how it goes then". Cue a rabid session of fierce accelleration, fiercer braking and occasionally three wheel cornering. The grin on his face said it all. For that brief 20 mins or so, he was young again, beaming smile and that gleam in the eyes that says "I am alive and loving it".

I miss that car, all subtle looking and discreet. I miss the old fella more than words can say though, even nearly 20 years on.

Thinking back, I recall tales of his adventures on a Brough Superior and varous other bikes. My Father had me helping with rebuids from an early age. Around 12 for my first go at a cylinder head decoke and rebuild, valve clearances and all (3.3L Vauxhall Cresta PB tappets set with engine running!). Remember setting up the ignition advance, points clearance, the upsized Stromberg carb. Remeber the often embarrased look on the face of 3L Capri drivers as the old PB annhialated them from 0 to any speed. Remeber the first decent journey in the new PC Cresta, overtaking an intercity express running parallel to the A12 near here at well into 3 figures. I can still picture the train driver's surprised look! Remeber crushing France in a day in te back of various big fast saloons. Remember the family's first Jag, (an XJ series 2, a car that I still think rates amongst the most appealing shapes of any saloon ever built with is beautiful stance and proportions).

Cant think why I turned out a petrolhead:confused:

Nice posting Chris:thumbup:

Turbo-diesels are fantastic but I can't ever imagine giving up a petrol car for it.
