Hi I've got a SLX TDI Hatch 99(T) can anyone kindly tell me whether a Grundig Radio Cassette with similar 6 CD changer in boot was a standard fit? (I doesn't have any Skoda badging but looks v.original).

The local dealer is telling me that because it was not an original fit - the 6CD changer is not covered by the Skoda Used Car Warranty. I'm disputing both, especially that it isn't covered by the warranty.

It displays intermitant cd 'Surface' errors if anyone has any ideas on how to fix.

I had a SLX TDi estate 00(W) any it came with a Grundig single slot cd HU....no autochanger.

It was awful so I change it for a Pioneer HU and autochanger.

My Symphony with 6 CD gives occasional "surface" errors.

Cleaning the disc and cleaning the lenses. Makes it go away.

It's the "mechanic" fault where the whole thing jams up that worries me.

Does the problem happen when it's cold?

Maybe is due to condensation on the discs. Had this happen on the standard fit autochanger in my RS. Just tokk out cds and wiped them off.

I had one of the first Octavia SLXs to have the single CD Grundig player as standard and I thought had Skoda badging but picture in accessory brochure shows Grundig it was delivered end of September 1999 as far as I remember earlier to this they were Grundig cassette units only. 6 disk units were only fitted in facelift models lauched at a later date. At this sept 99 date the 1.8T 150bhp Turbo model was lauched as was the 2.0 8v.

In the 05/99 accesory brochure a 6 disk and 10 - disk multichanger were available they are badged MCD 36 and Mcd 40 and have Grundig on the front and on cd cassette. the single cd/Radio as mentioned above was also an accessory and was the same as the one I had fitted as standard it is badged Grundig.

My unit did give surface errors when it was cold in winter especially on copied CD's it was fine in Summer and when car had warmed up.

Thanks guys, already tried cleaning it & The disks & it also does it in the dry.

Thankfully Skoda have offered to fund a replacement and I'm thinking of getting a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB 52.

Will get the combined DAB/FM bee-sting.

Any tips on fitting, can I trust this to Halfords as they look to be the cheapest !>;

Fitting yourself shouldn't be too hard - all you need is wiring adapter PC2-69-4 (if I recall correctly), and the amplified aerial thing if you want to use the radio for stuff other than strong FM signals...

All depends on the particular fitter, but barge poles spring to mind when anyone mentions Halfords - I've heard of too many iffy tales.

As Rob says, fitting should not be too difficult -do a search of this forum for tips. Taking the glove box out (5 screws) makes life easier and use the adaptor that leaves the 'K-line' signal from the car harness unconnected.

To access the aerial, pull the roof trim panel off and ease down the roof lining - be careful as not to crease it.

If going the DAB combined route, forget the aerial booster thingy because the aerial comes with everything you need to hook up.

Me and TaviaRS have fitted this Aerial and its relativley easy. Pull off some trim and away you go. Be carefull not to scratch the roof when removing and fitting the aerial.

Thanks, I'll probably get the Woodstock DAB52 from from Halfords as installation including the glass dab antenna is free. I'll then get the combined DAB and install it myself.

What make of twin DAB/FM bee-sting do you recommend, from where and for how much approx?
