Which head unit for Octavia vRS? BT, iPod, looks

Featured Replies

I'm looking for tips for an new head unit for a 2004 Octavia vRS. I'm looking for Bluetooth handsfree calling, iPod ready, and ... well ... somthing that won't look too out of place in the Octavia console (not too wild, right color, green light etc ...).

One candidate is the Pioneer P55BT. Any user experiences are very welcome!

Other suggestions?

Thanks!

See my posting re the new Alpine. That'd be my first choice.

The Becker, like any other non-Alpine unit is annoyingly slow on the Ipod interface, though I am told it sounds pretty good.

I had an Alpine CDA-9853R with an ipod interface. It was a total swine to use, the glide bar thing is a total PITA to use when driving or otherwise. I'd find it really hard to recomend it.

I've got a Becker now which sounds *much* better. Can't coment on the ipod interface as I dont have one for it.

All IMO of course!

btw does anyone have a green Becker Grand Prix ? The green is really nothing like the Skoda green on mine, which is odd as in the pictures I've seen from other peoples cars it seems to match quite well. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with it :(

That is a very different beast and I also know someone who had a similar Alpine and hated it. The Alpine Ipod Full-Speed units are the only way to go if you want proper Ipod integration.

The only decent ones are:

Car Audio Direct - The UK's leading car audio and stereo resource. Alpine DVA-9861Ri iPod Full Speed - Alpine ALP-DVA9861RI

& the new non-CD one:

All others are pants by comparison.

Yep, especially if you read the spec. 3 pre outs and a special d/a convertor, so doesn't use the inferior one in the Ipod.

In a previous, non Skoda life, I had a green Traffic Pro and found that the green was, well, too green.

Now that I've seen the light (as it were) and bought a Skoda, I think it would have been too much. In my Octy 2 right now I have the Becker DTM with the white display. Their definition of white is slightly optimistic, obviously using the wrong washing powder, as it's a bit grey, and I find it matches the lighting on the central console (airco tremperature) pretty well.

I also use it with an iPod, but not the Becker interface. I have the Dension IceLInk+. It works. I have my iPod fixed in a cradle by the central vents and use the iPod gui to control it -- it's easier to read and control that way than having to look down at the radio buttons, but that's just a personal opinion.

I have an Alpine 9850Ri, one the the best headunit's I've had.

Its odd, on my Grand Prix if you take a photo of it (no flash) it
