car is in great condition, with FSH. its just got a K&n induction kit & custom made backbox. new front pads & 2 new tires. i thought about £6200 tops

The p/x Glass's price says for excellent condition £5230 and average condition £4690. Then I'd add circa £1k for a private sale. Then yellow does affect the resale, so I'd say £6k if the condition is decent.

Steve

I'd agree - you wouldn't get 7 grand for a black 1!

he has spoken to a dealer who says he wouldnt sell it for under £7000. but the dealer is known for bein dear. i just want to work out a price for it. I offered 6k cash and he said he wants as close to 7k as possible

The dealer wouldn't sell it on a forecourt for less than 7k, or was he advising your friend to not to sell for less than 7 privately?

I wouldn't pay 7k in a private sale for it, myself.

he says the dealer wouldnt sell it for less than 7k but i was like your sellin it private thou so its different. Anyone got any sites i could show him to get him to realise hes askin to much for it ? i dont really want to pay anymore than £6000-£6400. less if possible

Oh dear, I get the feeling you're not going to have much luck here mate! If he's trying to sell the car for the same price as a dealer would

How about the first one listed from this 'Trader search ? Nearly exactly the same car as his by the sounds of it...

HTH,

Steve

that is like the same as what he is sellin thou, about 2k less miles but same in everyway

Yep, from a dealer, for a grand less! No more questions your honour ;)

If he's still not getting the message, stop wasting your time and go and buy from somewhere else!

its the only yellow one here thou. i will need to speak to him more about it

Ahh, I've just seen your location

TBH, surely with the prospect of saving yourself quite a bit of money, live with the extra hassle and go over to the mainland, and have more choice?

its the only yellow one here thou. dont want to go get another and then there be 2 lol. only 2 red, 2 silver , 2 black up here and one yellow

  • Author

i will show him that cheers !!!!!! keep them comin

Can't your local dealer search for a yellow one and order it in for you to look at?

  • Author

I suppose but the will add on a bit to take it up cos of the distance and boat costs

Surely that cost is going to be less than a grand though?! Which is the minimum saving it looks like you'll make...

I think around 6k. My 2001 with 43k on the clock FSH in excellent condition (new disks and pads all round etc etc) was only £5400 last November.

Have to say that if I could have got a car at what Wisebuyer are saying then would have been a happy bunny! Have had a look at some of the other cars I considered before buying my Octy 110 Elegance and the prices quoted are way too optimistically cheap i m o. If you can get one at the prices they are saying then good luck but guess those prices must be without warranty etc or are not taking Nth Yorkshire retailers into account!

6k tops, 5 and a half would be nearer the mark. Buying from friends is always a nighmare, especially when they aren't talking 'friend' prices. My father in law is the same, always trying to sell me his old motors at shop prices then looking askance when you turn him down.

I'd tell him the wonga is there if he changes his mind and lose interest for a while. Can't be that many people want a yellow vrs anyhow.

The dealer should provide a warranty, plus you have legal redress under the Sale of Goods Act if you end up with a lemon (no pun intended). Buy privately and the phrase 'buyer beware' applies. Factor those considerations into what you are prepared to pay.
