Reset milage on pod, skoda only job ?

Featured Replies

Hi all, well the auto leccy seems to think its the display unit thats at fault, he has checked everything and all seems ok, the thing he cant check is the pod because skoda for some reason wont send him a wiring diagram of the display unit.

So if i source a second hand unit to check if this is the case, is it only SKODA garage can reset the mileage on the unit.

Does anyone know if VAGCOM can do this ir what can other than SKODA garage.

I presume you can swap units so long you get the car read again to reset the faults.

Does anyone know of a spares near west yorkshire i could get in touch with to try another unit or buy one.

Anyone know how much a new one would be and where from......

any help most appreciated.

Vag-Com won't let you reduce the recorded mileage on a car, and I don't know that any of the dealer tools can, once the car has done more than 100 miles or so. Not sure about increasing the recorded mileage.

There are companies who specialise in Mileage Correction. Try looking in Exchange and Mart or Google.

AFAIK Bryan is exactly right, when installing a new dashpod you have a grace period of 100 miles and you also get to set the mileage to match the cars original.

Can't adjust the mileage at all using VAG COM (apart from what is described above).

Are some software/interfacing that can adjust depending on dash of car.

VAG TACHO support Fabia and Octavia upto 2004. Should be able to purchase cable (with built-in interface) and software on eBay for £50+/- (Cable is different to a VAG COM cable)

How compatable are the dash pods interchangable, i sourced a pod with the same outlay as mine but its from a 2003 fabia classic HTP, connections are the same but will this work in mine 1.9SDI.

Seems i need to replace the pod..........gotta start some where to stop the flashing dash and beeping.

The leccy chap said that he checked all the wiring connections and the earths, checked the alarm n stuff and all read ok, he foned SKODA and they said that they had to replace the pod when cars had similar problems... hope this sortes it, doing it tomorrow.

have a friend at garage who can reset the codes so thats ok....

will let you know how it goes ( PS, the auto leccy didnt charge me, mind you i said i would get the pod and take it to him, i suppose he can reset the codes )

A petrol dash wont work in a diesel, rev counters are different plus the 1.2 has three cylinders.

I counted 36 different combi-instruments (dash clusters) listed in ETKA for the Fabia alone before giving up checking for how many more there were!

There are plenty, have seen so many ordered wrong for cars.

Now we only order them by using F1 active or getting the part number from the control unit via diagnostics.

i got on the VAGCOM readout

Address 17 instruments

Part No: 6Y2 919 860 A

wot is the odds of finding an exact second hand one.........i posted a request on 247parts on the web for a 2001 1.9 sdi classic, see if i get calls....

can anyone tell me how much a new one would be..........

does any one know of a pod check/repairer

i seem to recall some one in the south that does it.......

seems i might be in dire straights then to get a second hand replacement that will fit....

dunno what to do now............? any ideas....

I have a brand new one in a box here, with pin, for a Fabia vRS tho, dont know if its different.

Put a request on by part number or try Gary at

cars dismantled by skospares.com for all your skospares

See if you can get the PIN or if not registration number and VIN of the donating car, the immobiliser serial should be on a sticker on it.

No manufacturer will let dealers have stuff that will allow them to re-set odometers, there was a bit of a scandal with Mercedes doing this a few years back.

Tried the mileage check with VAG Com the other day, it integrates the velocities stored in the ECU to give you the distance travelled by the ECU, worked out less than the odometer reading.

An ETKA in need of updating lists that PN as replaced by 6Y2 919 860D which used to cost £349.92. Check with your dealer what the correct replacement PN is.

If you fit a new dash pod you will need the immobilizer PIN from your car and the PIN from the donor car/new dash pod.

How do i get the PIN from both cars, where is it stored........

Can anyone get hold of the wiring diagram for pod, if so then i can get the auto leccy to check my pod out, might find the fault........

dont suppose anyone knows of a pod tester place..........

searched all over the place last night, i seem to recall someone in the south that will do it, you send them yer pod and they test it, ring you back with a diagnoses and price to repair......

i suddenly feel depressed now.

is it possible to disable the speaker on the pod, can put up with flashing lights but the beeping gives me ear ake.......will this effect owt else.

cheers, spevie

The pin mentioned is the 4 figure SKC or Secret Key Code available from a dealer on production of the correct documentation.

Should be able to get the SKC from VAG TACHO (same tool as described in the above post)

Dash would need to be in the car (i.e. as standard hooked up to the ECU/ OBD port etc.). The Skoda dealer might me able to give you the SKC. Had problems with my VW Polo as VW dealers don't/can't give them out any more. That's why I bought a VAG TACHO cable

Tried the mileage check with VAG Com the other day, it integrates the velocities stored in the ECU to give you the distance travelled by the ECU, worked out less than the odometer reading.

how did you do such a check would be interesting to see whether my ecu milage matches my dash milage?

cheers

Taken from RossTech

EDC-15+ Mileage. On some (but by no means all) TDI ECUs, VAG-COM can show an independent "odometer" reading stored in the ECU. This can useful as a means of cross-checking the mileage on used car at time of purchase, particularly in Europe where odometer fraud is rampant. We plan to extend this functionality to as many ECUs as practical in the future. Access this function from the Applications screen.
