Favorit brake caliper repair kit?

Featured Replies

As the title may suggest, I'm looking for a couple of brake caliper repair/overhaul kits for my 1994 Favorit. My local motor factor doesn't have them listed. Does anybody know where I could get some? Or even if they are the same as something else (non-Skoda) that might be in the motor factor's book?

TIA

JHMbutt co should stock them although I've heard that caliper repair kits in general can be a bad idea, apparantly its very difficult to ever get a good seal again. I tend to replace calipers where the seals have gone.

I agree, don't bother repairing ! Either a dealer (if they can be bothered to search) or butts for a complete caliper or what about a scrappy ?

If they are the same as the Felicia repair kits, they tend to be OK. As well as seals and lubricant they come with a piston, so the only concern is to make sure that the bore in the caliper is good. They are alot cheaper than a new caliper.

Thanks guys,

I couldn't find a repair kit in JHM Butts catalogue. Maybe I didn't look hard enough or perhaps I should look in the Felicia catalogue if they are the same calipers. I was expecting a kit to come complete with a new piston, anyway.

I will have them in bits and see if I can resurrect them enough to make the MOT man happy. New discs and new pads mean the pistons are almost fully back into the bore and they don't back off as they should do. A tiny, miniscule bit of drag shows up on the brake test so the MOT man ain't happy... I'll take 'em apart, clean & polish the pistons and lube the seals before putting 'em back together.

Or put some old part worn pads in...

I expect new calipers would cost several times more than the value of the car...

Cheers,

Simon H

Part number is CK452 at £12.99 + VAT on page 14 of their catalogue.

Fordfan, thanks for the cat. No.

I've ordered a pair of repair kits as the pistons on mine are way past redemption.

Cheers,

Simon H
