Help with A pillar trim and plastic ticket holder

Featured Replies

Hi to all,

I have just decided to get rid of the plastic ticket holder on the side of the windshield as I have had no use of it so far. But I don't want to break it. I know it's held just by one screw behind A pillar trim. I want to unscrew it properly so I can put it back some day when I sell my lovely Octy (to buy new Octy, of coarse). It should be an easy job but I just can't figure out how to take the A pillar trim off. It should be simply pulled and taken off but it doesn't work that way for me.

Am I not aplying enough force?

Can anyone explain the way to take it off?

Thanks

Just give it a good tug.

It does just pull off. Take your time starting from the top and work your way down using a lever behind the trim to release the clips.

I'd be surprised if you got the ticket holder off without breaking it though. I had to replace mine as it had a crack in it which caused the most annoying sort of hard to trace rattle you could ever imagine. They are partially bonded into the winscreen sealant.

Less then £1 to buy though and the part number is on it.

Thanks, job done!

But why did you want to get rid of it? Have you never parked somewhere they need the ticket to be displayed? Far better than sticking it to the screen...

mine didnt have one for some reason. think ill order one as theyre so cheap

Well, I mostly use car to do 50 kms a day to go to work a back home. My company has a parking, my house has garage, places I go have free parking...

Well, in 6 months I own the car I still didn't need a ticket. So, why keep the holder. Looks ugly and makes inside windshield cleaning dificult.

Just give it a good tug.

You mucky boy you!

does anyone have a part number for the plastic ticket holder? i tried to order one yesterday fro the dealer and they said it couldnt be ordered as its bonded to the window?

My Octy is also missing the ticket holder. I just assumed it got snapped off before I acquired it:mad:

I found it very useful in my last Octy.

My A pillar trim will be coming off soon;) so a good opportunity to replace it.

That's a load of borrocks Stu. I've changed mine, there is an edge of it tucked under the bonding but it comes out no problem.

Two numbers - 1Z0 867 159 or 1Z0 867 159 A I suspect either will do it was simply a revised part fitted to later models. 97p IIRC.

You can see it here -

I tried to remove the a-post trim (and will be again soon) but it didn't budge. The airbag plastic badge thingy was so well jammed into the underlying metalwork that it was threatening to pull out of the trim. I had a lever under it too, and still no give. are they different if you have curtain airbags?

ELSAWIN advice that there is the screw bellow that airbag plastic badge. They advice to remove the badge (off with tiny screwdriver) and then unscrew the screw. As I wanted to get rid of mine I finished braking it, didn't want to remove the trim. Later installed ELSAWIN on my PC and, just for curiosity, looked how to remove the trim. There was that thing about the screw under the badge.

Hope this helps

Aww shucks, you'll make me blush. :P ;)

Out of interest Birkenhead (Merseyside) used to have a disc parking system where you got 2 hours free parking in many streets. The cardboard disc used to fit very neatly into the plastic clip. The only criticism was that the clip should have been on the nearside to make the job of traffic wardens easier! Since January it now costs

There used to be lots of places in Europe with disc parking systems (Czech Republic?). Perhaps this is why only Skoda seems to fit these clips.

I used to have a 1999 Volvo V40 with one of these clips. I like them because they stop the ticket being blown away when you open the door :)

I like mine because it does away with the residue on the screen :)
