Hello Stu

See you are in hampshire, Southampton by any chance?

Ian

Not too far from Soton, just off the M27 ;)

Welcome to Briskoda :)

Your budget might stretch to a vRS but it will take a bit of searching around for an early example. Good luck with what you decide on and welcome to the forum

Thanks for the welcome, have just bought a 2001 Elegance estate (1.8 t)for a tad under 4k. Has 71k on the clock with mainly skoda history. The last owner has put vrs badges on it which i am not so sure about as it might make it more nickable! Drives well and i think everything else is standard. Pick it up next week.

Hello,

So are you from Southampton then?

There are a fair few of us in and around that area

As for the VRS badges, loose the badges and remap to get the extra 30 horses :)

Cheers guys

Thanks for advice, will see if they are easily removed. they are on the front and back.

Does the remap increase the fuel consumption a large amount??

Welcome to Brisky Ian....I'm yet another from around the south...but over the water!!

Cheers guys

Have a quick search for de badging for tips on how to get the badges off easily.

As for the fuel consumption question a quick search for remap under the octavia section should help here. I'm afraid I don't know as i drive a derv :)

In my experience, fuel consumption is about the same after a remap, assuming you don't drive at full pelt the whole time of course!

Well worth doing IMHO and you'll probably get more than 30 horses if yours is 150bhp now.

Badge removing - lots of posts about it but warm the glue up with a hairdryer and they should just peel off. Others have had to use fishing line to cut through the adhesive.

If you're interested in selling the vRS badges..... let me know as i want some!!!!

Welcome from another southerner

Assuming yours is a 150 bhp you should see 210-220 with a good remap. Fuel consumption will be worse when you rag it but for day to day driving it will be as good & probably a bit better.

With remaps IMO a custom map where the car is put on the Rolling Road & the map tailored to your car is always better & worth the extra money as you can actually measure the inprovement , it also identifies any other problems. If the cars already down on power for any reason, maybe a faulty MAF & you need to sort that as well.

As the car has VRS badges added it might already have been remapped, I would try & contact the previous owner to see before you go too far. Failing that JKM in Portsmouth have a rolling road & will do power runs. They are also I believe the closest mapper to you & would be ideal for future servicing

I would budget for the possibility of the remap shortening the life of the clutch, its already done over 70,000 miles & a potential 70 bhp increase in power might bring its demise nearer. Its not guaramteed to happen but its worth having a contingency just in case

Thanks again for the advice am so impressed with the forum!

Re the badge query, I may sell the vrs badges if they come off easily. I would also like to get hold of an original 1.8 t badge!

You will probably find the badge isnt that expensive from a dealer, if not there must be loads at the scrappies, try skospares in Poole as a start

Alternativly Remap it & put a 1.4 badge on the back :D :D
