Grinding noise from VRs brakes!

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone else get a grinding noise when they use their brakes. This is especially noticeable at the start of a journey.

Any ideas?

Cheers:D

Yep. Rust on the discs when at the start of a journey. The rear discs on mine are noisy too, but so was the demostrator.

"they all do that sir".

Particularly prevelant at this time of the year with all the crud being spread on the roads. A spirited stop from around 50 should see them right

Yep, likely to be salt and/or debris build up. Also likely to be a quicker built up of rust at this time of year, with all the condensation. Advice as above :iagree: :D

Yup, plain old physics.

Bare steel out in the elements, its going to rust.

chemistry ?

Hmmm, yeah i'll let you have that one ;)

Assuming it's not the pads wearing out...

Must admit mine is the same 2001 model, also if i leave the handbrake on for 2days or more ( some times i use a company car ) when i release it it bangs free when i set of....scares me cos it sounds like been shunted, even tho i just set off in me drive ??

If it's still doing it after a few proper stops, then maybe....

if its getting worse after a few stops , then definately :D

Yeah, that as well! :P

Or if you're not stopping at all it's probably all the pads ;)

Thats drum brakes for ya.

same here, glad i'm not the only one, i was told its a 'natural noise' due to corrosion on the discs due to open nature of alloys

still annoying tho.

yeh noticed it on mine a couple of days ago, first time driven it without strreo on :D, got better after a few miles but still noticable when stopping last few yards.

I personally start my journies with the accelerator pedal ;)

BUT, when I need to stop the brakes are noisy, I thought it was to do with the pad compound ( I get similar noise on my bike with long life, all weather compounds)

Any help?

Also do your brakes lack power in times of need? Mine do (new car, 1400 miles)

Yessir! Just my rears and always seems prevalent in wet conditions. In fact my rear disks started to show score marks at the same time - well within a year of ownership. When I reported this to Skoda (via my dearlership - Citygates, Chichester), Skoda tried it say both rears were suffering normal wear a tear! Luckily Citygates didn't go with that and replaced the rears in guarantee - and then took Skoda on - well done, eh?! Started again now, though - but firm usage does reduce problem as suggested elsewhere. Nice to find I'm not alone!

Mine do it to, in fact I think most of them make that horrible gringing noise. Other make cars that have rear discs always look soo much more shiny and clean. I spose it is probably down to the fabia's rear brake design. I think I have now accepted they are pants but at least the front ones that do all the work are better!!!!
