Performance Panel Air Filter

Featured Replies

Whose 'remap' and RR gave you those figures?. From experience I think you'll find that may be a little optimistic.

AMD wasn't it.

Now back to my second 'off topic' question, will VAG-COM tell me my boost pressure and air fuel ratio?

Yes

Dry or Oiled? From what I have learnt the Pipercross and Green Cotton panel filters come 'dry' whilst most others K&N, Jetex etc are pre-oiled. If you have one of these and want it 'dry' you just need to clean it and then don't re-oil it after.

I believe oiled filters are OK for the TFSI engine but all the VAG PD TDI engines must use a 'dry' filter as the oil messes up the MAF sensor in the long term.

This leads me to - this thread is about panel filters for the TFSI engine BUT does anyone know which filter is needed for the vRS's TDI PD 170 engine? A look under the bonnet indicates a different airbox etc to the TFSI engine. Does the vRS 170 engine use the same filter as the PD 140 engine?

Yep as VRStu says it was from my AMD rolling road remap, (see my post 'AMD remap'). Car being serviced in two weeks time, after which I'm more than happy to get it rolling roaded along side another remapped vRS to compare.

Hi

We do the Pipercrtoss ones.

These are offer at the moment too for the Mk2 vRS at £28.00 INCLUDING VAT

That is a great price

The Green air filter is the same as K&N both come oiled , and the Pipercross one does not come oiled.

I believe that the problems with the MAF are NOT assosiated with oil from air filters , I believe that the MAF is just something that is not that strong and has gone down on totally standard cars and I have even done them on warranty

The one on the PD170 looked to be the same as the one on the PD140 (2.0 TDI 140) if thats any help

If you aren't expecting gains from your panel filter you may be surprised.

I have been running one for a while now and recently removed it and replaced it with the OEM paper one. Big difference.

Stu,

I was considering changing the Green filter for the original paper one. Was there really a difference ? Mine has been cleaned recently but I'm not that convinced.

We have a diesel. To make use of the increase in air we need to add more fuel. Unless your car overfuels already.

The ECU, even in standard trim (map) will provide the extra fuel, in the same way it does on a cold winter's morning vs. a hot summer's day!

So, more air provided will demand more fuel, which the ECU will give it.

Only on petrol engines.

If it was true on diesels you wouldnt get black smoke in the summer when the intake temp are 100c+ as the ECU would back off the fuel to keep the A/F ration inline.
