How is the rear bumper attached on an Octy vRS?

Featured Replies

I am STILL getting my water collecting in the boot of my car.

The rear light cluster has been resealed twice, but again, on Sunday I checked and there was water sitting in the boot where I posted previously.

Idried it up, then drove 6 miles or so to meet up with some guys before the ScottishVAG meet and when I checked again, there was a little fresh amount sitting in there:mad:

I got speaking to a VW mechanic who told me of a similar experience with an Audi S3. When it came back in for it's 3rd attempt at a fix, he removed the rear bumper and found a screw was missing - that's where the water was coming in.

I mentioned this to the Service Manager at the dealership I bought the car from and he told me the rear bumper was clipped on, on an Octy.

Surely this cannot be the case as the slightest bump and it would fall off!

Are there any bolts holding it on, that are on or above the boot floor which may be missing and causing the water ingress?

I also noticed a slight dribble down the inside of the rear screen, dead centre, when the hatch was sitting open.

Is this likely to be from the wiper assembly washer?

I am getting a tad p'eed off with this - last Wednesday I had to wait 22 minutes until I could drive the car as I had a sheet of ice INSIDE the front windscreen, and NO I am not exaggerating.

Apart from that, I love the car and just want this fixed.

The service manager has said he is getting fed up with this and will be speaking to the dealer principal about it - am I wrong to expect this to be fixed under the approved used car warranty?

I just spent over

Anyone?

Sounds like the age old Golf Mkiv problem, with the rear wash wipe assembly corroding. This causes water to leak into the boot area. If I were you I'd take the inside boot lid trim off and get some one to squirt the rear wash wipe whilst you look.

If that isn't the case, strip all the trim off the boot interior and sit in the boot whilst someone pressure washes your car's rear until you can see the water ingress.

But in all honesty that's what the dealership should have done. Have another word with them and ask they exactly what fault finding they've been doing

Have a look at my recent post about a similar problem.

I removed the plastic trim from the inside of the boot lid, closed the boot and sprayed it with a hose and then had a look to see where the water was coming in, mine was from the seam behind the rear window seal.

I have heard that the seals around the rear wiper can go, but this wasn't where mine was leaking from.

Mine had been to the main stealer twice and they said they couldn't find the leak.....took me all of about 10 minutes by applying some common sense :)

IIRC you remove the plastic rub strip and that will revela a couple of bolts, but there may be more to it than that.

If you pull back the trim on the O/S of the boot you sill see two bolts which hold the bumper on, it's the same on the N/S but you need to remove the CD changer to get access to them.

The Haynes Workshop Manual covers the procedure. There are 4 upper mounting bolts under the plastic trim just below the tailgate, 2 inside the boot on each side behind the side trim, more mounting bolts under the bumper, and 2 each side at the upper front ends of the rear bumper.

Much appreciated guys - I am off on Friday so will strip things out and see what I can find - seeing as the Skoda dealers still haven't phoned back!

Is the CD changer easy to remove as the last time I looked, it wasn't immediately obvious how to.

It must be quite easy - I managed it :)

There's a bracket attached to the side of the car by the bumper bolts. If I recall correctly there were bolts through the ends of the bracket into the sides of the CD changer holding it in place.

I FOUND MY LEAK(S)!

Got the mrs to hose the car whilst I sat inside a stripped out boot.

It is coming in at 2 places:

The rear wiper arm - washer needing replaced?

The same place as last time, but when hosed, in copious amounts!

Gonna take the car back to the stealers and make sure they strip the bumper and fix it properly this time!

Nice one.... charge the dealer for your time, or try and get a free service or something for their crap previous efforts.
