Which engine mount is faulty?

Featured Replies

Every time I lift the clutch after changing gear there's a loud 'thump' as driveline shunt kicks in. I think one of the engine mounts is on the way out. Squealer won't have any of it and has repaced the gear change cables  and done the gearbox mount lubrication fix, all to no avail.

Anyone any thoughts as to which mount is most likely to have gone? Did also wonder if it could be the DMF, but I can reproduce the noise in gear just by applying and disapplying the throttle... Cheers guys.

Sounds like the rear mount to me.

Sounds like the rear "dogbone" mount.

Quick update for anyone who's interested. Problem got progessively worse - loud clunking noises whenever power put on or taken off. Finally diagnosed as a busted CV joint  Peace now restored...

Sorry to ressurrect this thread, but is there a way of diagnosing dodgy CV joints?

You know, like to diagnose a duff wheel bearing you jack it up and look for play etc, that kind of thing. ;)

Took mine in to the dealer the other day for them to look at my clunking when dipping the clutch after accelerating, and they said all the engine mounts are tip top. Annoying thing is the noise went away that day so they couldn't hear it, even when I took the mechanic out for a spin I couldn't get it to do it. Proper annoyed.....it's like the car knew it was under scrutiny. Grrr.

the best way to tests CVs thats always worked for me is to drive slowly on full lock either way. at slow speed it is a loud graunching noise that once heard is never forgotten. you wont hear it in a straight line or gentle curves though.
