Looking for a solid, second "fun" car

Featured Replies

My Octy is on the works car scheme so I'm looking for a second car to keep my NCD building (and also because I actually miss tinkering with the mechanics of a car:( ).

Looking at a budget of

half decent Seat Ibiza Mk2 Cupra's normally knock out for about a grand to a grand and a half.. plenty fun , too :)

Wonder if MX-5 would be in budget?

I did look at MX-5's, but I'd be scraping the barrel to get one for under £1500.

PMSL @ spending £1500 on a bangor to keep NCB building - bit extreme to save a few quid when the company car goes back don't you think??

Dare I say a Saxo VTS... :sofahide:

Is Bangor really worth £1500? Believable I guess. ;)

The car will be fun too. :P Plus I love tinkering with mechanics on cars. :)

Mr Brums sugestion of a Mk2 Ibiza Cupra isnt all that silly, much underated and over looked car.

2.0 16v 150 bhp MK3 Golf GTi engine in something roughtly the same size as a MK4 Polo.

this is true.. or even the 8V variant if you wish to keep the insurance rate down a tad  *still kicks in with a healthy 115- 20 Bhp *

Have to agree on the Ibiza- the 16v really has a good punch to it, and handles fairly well.

dare I suggest a mint mk2 golf gti though? back in the day where the only assistance you had wass the trip computer!

No power steering, no abs, just you and a short ratio box. Conversely, the 205 1.9gti is a good plan and well within budget

Or, as a bit of a wildcard, an Omega/Senator 3.0 V6. Had the pleasure of driving an ex-Police one on Saturday night and what a hoot

they are great cars, but the non MV6 lumped ones (both 2.5 and 3.0 v6) have a habit of blowing the right hand headgasket- leving you with a 3 cyl:thumbdwn:

You checked Pistonheads Classifieds Rob? ;)

Steve

Yup, pistonheads. Look under Pug 205....

Lots of fun cars in there.

When I had a company car (at BSM! and I couldn't stand driving the corsa!) I also ran a lancia thema turbo at the weekends, there's one for sale on pistonheads, I got mine for £1500, was a great car, dunno how you'd cope with insurance though , I beleive it's group 19!! but you have 220bhp as standard ;)

I have a Corrada, and its fantastic. Not the fastest car on the road by any means, but one of the best handling FWD's of its era, and damn good looking. Take a look at:-

Ive seen 150mph + in on of those, standard, years ago. mate had one. he sold it to a mate, who put a bleed valve on, it went like **** then, until it inevitably blew up. 16valve is the same engine as an integrale, just in a saloon car with saloon car suspension. Interesting is how i would describe the handling.

yup, good for 150 mph ;) the engine is a cracker! as for the suspension, I would describe it as a "tourer" lol..... they can be sorted with the 'normal' springs/damper change ect... well eqipped too, alcantara, climate control ect.....mine was a 'C' plate, and had ABS as standard, it was one of the first cars to have ABS :) (1985 I think was the year of manufacture) loved it (still miss it!)
