First posting (first Skoda)

Featured Replies

Hi, everyone,

My wife and I have bought our first Skoda - a 2.0 litre, 140 bhp Octavia TDI 5-door hatchback, registered in October 2004. We were looking for a good towcar to replace our trusty Cavalier 2.0 hatch which was still running well but getting a little tired, with 167,250 miles on the clock.

We tend to hang on to our cars for along time whilst looking after them well, so I expect to be paying a lot of attention to this website. The review of this particular Skoda persuaded us that it was woth considering.

Anyone using the same model as a towcar, who could offer any comments on its characteristics / performance, or any other advice about looking after it as a long-term proposition?

Regards,

John Barker

I've edited the original message, which made this postsript redundant - but I can't see how to delete it.

Sorry.

Welcome to Briskoda :)

I can't recall too many people posting about towing but I'm sure there must be someone ! And hopefully they'll be along soon :D

Welcome to Briskoda, Enjoy the New Motor

IIRC the 140 TDi 4x4 was tow car of the year in What Tin Tent (or whatever it is that caravaner's read)

Welcome to Briskoda.

Hello and welcome - from the owner of another 2.0 TDi Octavia hatch registered in October 2004.

Mine is an island green Elegance model, with about 27k miles now. I've only owned it since Sep 06, but no real problems so far. Unfortuntely I have no towing experience, but I can imagine it would pull well.

How many miles has yours done so far? And what spec is it?

Thank you. Went for our first long run in it yesterday and was impressed. Forgot to mention on my first posting that it's a 2 litre, 1986 cc, 138bhp hatchback.

Thanks, Andy. It's a 2 litre (1986cc), 138bhp, diesel Octavia 5-door hatchback with 47.5k miles on the clock. I'd alter my profile to show this information but am still trying to find out how to do that. We took it for our first long run yesterday and were pleased with the performance. The spec suggests that it ought to be a good towcar and I'll report on that before too long.

It will tow so well you won't believe it......I had to keep my speed down  and with a 16' one ton van on the back it will still do around 30 mpg.......try it on a small run first and see how it feels....on mine the rear suspension was a little soft so I bought some rubber doughnuts to fit inside the springs and that made a big difference, the nose weight is resonable and it is very stable......

one problem...I did find that BMW's don't like being out accelerated from the lights when you are towing a van.....made my day
