Tdi Tuning Box Problem...

Featured Replies

I have an octy II 2.0L TDI L&K and have had an ebay type tuning box fitted from 1100mile on clock. All was going well and I enjoying the extra power but at 3400miles I have an 'emissions workshop' warning light and message come on! I have removed the box and the warning still stays on.

:(:(:( Help, this is a company car an i need to clear it somehow......I heard that if you cycle the ignition enough times it will cancel the error...?

any help would be apreciated :)

The warning light is there for a reason. It means you need to take it to the garage.

Personally wouldn't touch one of those tuning boxes off ebay with a barge pole.

The fault will clear by itself given enough time, my old PD130 Octavia used to do it and clear after a few hours driving.

The cheapo boxes fool the ECU (IIRC) into thinking it's colder than it is which overfuels the engine which means more oomph.

The ECU sees the overfuelling and causes the fault you have due to the box.

The digital boxes are more complicated by intercepting signals and modifying them dynamically to overfuel the engine.

Was it wise to post that on here with 'Big Brother' Skoda UK watching??

Considering its a first post and only makes reference to a L&K 2.0TDI I think he'll be ok - not like there's only 1 L&K 2.0TDI on the roads is it?

you can buy little fault code reader/resetters from ebay, a friend of mine has one, and they will clear the fault... anyone with VAG com will also be able to clear the fault. If you go to one of the meets, you'll be bound to find someone to do it for you ;) I don't know where you're based in the country, but if you come to the cat'n'fiddle meet on sunday the 25th, I'll do it for you :)

:iagree:

Even though you haven't given the game away with regards to who you are, be careful what you say as you never know who is skulking around in these forums, especially when it's about tuning boxes.

If you are a freedom member you can get the whole stroy ;)

Back on topic: my CEL used to go off after several restarts of the engine, I would flog the tuning box as well, it's probably no more than a resistor in a box TBH :thumbdwn:

If you want more oomph, you will have to get a digital box to prevent the dreaded emissions light.

Perhaps if you divulged your location there may be a member with VAG-COM who will do it for you.

thanks folks,

took the box off now and will wait for hopeful 'auto clear' of warning light. Think i will enjoy the 140BHP for now and maybe check out digital boxes in the summer.

cheers

I wonder if this is something to do with the DPF.....may well have happened even without the tuning box.

Seems that Skoda has quite a few problems with it's DPF installation.

Have a go a driving for 10mins at a steady 50mph....also do a search for DPF problems.

I didn't think a 2.0 tdi l&k had a DPF ;)
