Anyone colour coded the chrome grill surround?

Featured Replies

This has been talked about before I think so just wondered whether anyone has since done it or thought about doing it?

I think in black a colour coded grill surround would look really menacing!

I Colour coded my Black Mk1 vRS, personally I liked the look, but then again I am a bit odd!!!

How did you do it Juston? I've heard of folk having probs with the paint peeling off again.

Write up would be nice ;)

I do like that on the Mk I actually. The Mk I looks more aggressive anyway.

I had my fabia grille colour coded about a year ago by a mate who works as a car sprayer

I have had one small chip on it where it has started to peel

nothing overly drastic on the peeling front so far though

I know that a couple of members on here have colour coded the centre grille slats on a Race Blue Octy vRS, 'Hedge' deffinately has and 'Roo' has colour coded the chrome part of the grille on his Black OctyII but it's not a vRS.

This might interest you though.............Clicky.

Cheers Makefish, - I reckon that looks really good. What do others reckon?

I think vRStu colour coded his Mk 2 race blue Octy. BUT this was NOT the chrome grill surround, so this only provides more general info. If you check his page, he tells you how to do what he did with pics. I would defo do this if I had a race blue one!

Makefish, I rather like that pic, didn't expect to though. A bit 'retro' if you consider the trend on lots of cars esp VAG ones to add bits of chrome. Yep I like it! Very 'obsidian weapon' or Vader's helmet! :)

The picture on his website is not Stu's car, I think that one is 'Hedge's' but I'm not 100% sure.

When I did mine I used this from Skodaw

If you are going ahead then be warned that the chrome bit is fairly expensive where the plastic bits are pretty cheap.

Mine are nearly a year old and there has been no problems with peeling and the like, I guess it all comes down to the prep.

It was a professional job!

Luckily for me, I work next door to a SMART repairer, so he done it for me, I did not have any problems with the paint coming off, but then again I only had the car 3 months following painting.

The guy who done it also painted my Mk1 wheels and he also sells touch-up paints for all skodas.

Select Finish

I sold the wheels on ebay because they looked to small on the Octy, however they look fantastic on the Ibiza they went on.

Are they 16's?

How much for the chrome surround?

The one on my website was done by Dave aka Skodaw. The link that Steve posted above is of a black one which a guy has emailed me from abroad and he also sent me pictures of a red one which he asked me to add to the page.

Strangely enough I was editing the page to include them this morning and haven't managed to do it yet but I'll try and sort it tonight.

Nope...Standard 17"s I put lower profile Toyos on which didn't help the size issue.

I was much happier with the look of the larger 18's, but as we discussed before, it made the handling worse as the weighed so much.

If I can get a pic of the Ibiza, the wheels ended up on I will, they looked the dogs sphericals on that car. :)

Sorry mate I can't remember exactly and I don't keep the invoices.

It was in the region of 50quid plus the Skoda badge, all the other grilles and painting it came to around 200quid total.

50 squid isn't so bad.

This may be a daft question but how/where do I get it colour coded? How so I make sure I get a good match for the rest of the car?

Any normal bodyshop should be able to do that for you but be prepared to pay if you walk in the front door ;) .

If you are down south then I know a man who works in one ;) .

Cost me about 80 quid for paint but I had quotes from my dealer of 200.
