Auto Express - New Superb Hatch Spyshots

Featured Replies

Looks like a nice car, heavily based on the current Octy with some styling cues from the new Fabia.

Reported to be getting 2.0l Turbo as well as a big oil burner.

The front of it just looks horrible to me. The back aint too bad, and it being a hatchback is a major advantage now... May even be persuaded to trade the Espace in for it in a couple of years time.

However, here is the test mule (Stretched Octavia II)

Are we sure the Auto Express images are not just Photoshops like this one?

A bit saabish to me

VW Group dont want it as a saloon to keep it apart from the Audi and VW Passat , so a very large car with Hatch , could be a bit handy .Also read that its going to be in an Auto ,and manual , but did not mention DSG .

That front quarter angle looks spot on. Never thought I'd see the day when a Superb appealed!

Wonder if an estate will come along...?

taxi!

Wonder if an estate will come along...?

Nope. Thats where the passat comes in.

I think, if they can avoid reliability issues they will be on to a winner here. I too never thought I'd think a Superb was a great looking car - but today has changed that. I want one.

I really like that - the nose is ace. Probably too big for me, but the proportions and details are good. And it doesn't look quite like anything else - mostly a hint of BMW 7 to the front lights, perhaps?

I quite like it, I agree with the Saab comments though... very 9-5.

The reason oft stated for no estate version of the current Superb is that VW don't want to lose Passat sales.

I wonder if they may have shot themselves in the foot by releasing a hatch? There must be a huge market for large family hatches, especially as the new child car seat laws are eroding back seat space. A saloon is useless for family motoring. We got a Passat estate because that was the best solution available, but a Superb hatch would certainly have been under consideration.

I can't wait to see how it's priced against the Passat. Price it too low and VW may lose Passat customers; price it too high and they won't win over Mondeo/Vectra/Laguna drivers. It'll be interesting to see how it does.

Oh, I think the new Superb looks pretty good, but I won't be losing any sleep over my choice of Passat. :)

As Zooty says it'll need to be priced right.

But when you look at in they have:

Fabia Vs. Corsa/Fiesta

Octavia Vs. Astra/Focus

Superb Vs. Vectra/Mondeo

Gone are the days when the Cavalier was a family car, the latest Vectra is a BIG car and I suspect the new Mondeo will be bigger than the outgoing model.

The Octavia has always represented good value over the like sof the AStra and Golf, not only on price but on space, sitting just above the competition in size. The superb will do the same, sitting just about the Vectra and Mondeo.

the rear doors look like the new jetta doors......but thats no bad thingi like the jetta
