Great deal or Stay clear??

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Seen this wee baby for sale on autotrader. Wonderin it its worth a wee trip over to good old England or is it a stay clear job? Check out this thread.

Buy a used SKODA OCTAVIA - Auto Trader UK

Looks nice, BUT be very careful. It could be a CAT D-C

I saw that one also.... no mention of milage on the add though. They do say it has 4 new tyres, so I would presume 20 - 30k miles. If there is a full service history, then I would consider it.

By the time you will have paid the VRT it will cost you approx. €23,500 (allowing €5k VRT - the RS is not listed on ROS.ie) + travel expenses. Cheapest example on carzone is approx. €26k with 17k miles (from memory).

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a CAT D-C??

HPI it?

Reg number seems readable so its status should be easy enough to check....

It refers to whether it has been in an accident, and has been classed as writtern off by the insurance company, they have four levels damage ranging from A to D.

If you are serious I would, as I already said, get an HPI check done on it. This will let you know of outstanding finance, insurance write offs etc.

Shouldn't be too much of an issue when you conme to sell it as it would be an import for a future purchasers, but it could be an issue to you buying it.

Another thing, which someone else may be able to answer, where to you stand on the pan-European warranty? Balance of the UK warranty or just the remainder of 1 year (worst case could be 1 week's warranty from now! )

Maybe get someone local to have a look before you make the trek over the water? Doing a search but with my postcode (S43) it's only 53 miles.....

I think he would only have the remainder of a two year warranty, rather than 3 years. Standard warranty is 2 years here from new.

In my experience if something seems to good to be true it probably is.

Worth investigating further of course.

I don't see why that is a particularly cheap price TBH.

Seen plenty of elegance 2.0 TDI 140's on a late 06 plate going for just a touch under £12k and dervs do hold their value well.

What does glasses guide say it is worth?

Assuming an HPI check says all is OK, at £12000 Skodaguy's vehicle is a bargain
