fobbed off?

Featured Replies

I took my x reg 1,4 comfort into the dealers for the following (Autosales Bilston)

Engine Management Light being on, damp drivers side front and rear footwells and dodgy windscreen wipers.

Got it back with all issues fixed (allegedly), warning light was an exhaust sensor, which was replaced and they picked up on a dodgy temperature sensor which they replaced and they changed the seals on the drivers side doors and changed the wipers. All under warranty.

However they were reluctant to give papaerwork, saying "it was all done internally", however I pushed and got them to say they'd post a copy on. Still waiting (only been a few days) but I've been looking at the door seals and they are not new. Am I right in thinking that the seals regarding leaks, are the ones you can see, when you open the door - they run across the top of the bodywork where the door closes to? If so, they are very gunky and not new at all - bringing me to wonder whether they are just saying they've done it. In addition the smearing windscreen wipers are still smearing in exactly the same place and they too don't look new either. The carpets, although drier, if you press hard in certain places you can still feel wet seeping up.

What do you reckon - inconceivable they'd just bare faced lie? Seems stupid as I'm obviously gonna go back! In addition since I've had it back it has developed a misting windows issue after being in the car and driving for 5 mins - which the air con clears in a couple of mins. But it all seems a bit dodgy....

Any thoughts? Apologies for the lack of techincal knowledge,

Sam

you cannot see the seals which leak as they are inside the door behind the trim panel

its not the actual rubber door seals which leak but the seals between the inner door panel and the door frame itself

Cool - thanks for the advice. When the rear door is opened after rain, there is still a puddle on the metal bodywork where the door shuts to, so I reckon it's not been fixed properly....

guess I'm taking it back.

If you look underneath your doors you will see the drain holes which are to allow water coming off the windows to drain out the doors onto the sill and run off to the outside of the car so I don't think that is actually a problem.

The problem arises when the internal door seals leak & allow water to run into the inside of the vehicle and I assume that is what they are claiming to have fixed.:)

It is a fairly common fault and a search of this forum will give you further information.

Quite normal, there are drain holes in the bottom of the doors and the water from these has to land somewhere, the seals that are referred to seal the ancilliary carrier to the door, over which the interior door trim is placed. Water usually enters the door on every car at the base of the window. If the water is comnig through between the door trim and the door then these seals are still leaking.

The misting is due to the carpets and soundproofing still being wet. The wipers?, maybe they put a generic set on, and not the proper VW set which are slightly curved, or the screen is dirty in one place. The part number is 1J0998003 at about

Could they be on the wrong way around? Clears on the first wipe, but smears on the return?!

Cheers for the advice rear the drainage from the doors - just assumed when I saw water sitting in puddles on the sill that I had a problem. Must admit , the carpets have not got wet since...must just need the sound proofing to dry to stop the misting.

Live and learn - cheers again.

You could have hit the nail on the head there, when they come out of the box they are set for left hand drive, the clips need reversing for right hand drive. The spoiler on the drivers blade should be closest to the base of the windscreen.

try looking at the "Fabia door leaks " post -

Got a call from the dealer today. I'd emailed about condesation and puddles etc, before checking my replies here. Anyhoo - they were incredibly apologetic. Are forwarding the paperwork re: past work for my records and want the car back to change all the seals and dry the car out once and for all.

Their attitude was basically 'we've sold it like this (only had it a month) and we want to put it right so you are happy' The guy I've been dealing with (Roger - Autosales Bilston) is very helpful.

Will be the 3 rd time the car has been back now - but the fact that they are eager to correct their mistakes and help were possible is good enough for me. Booked in 19th March - will let you know how it goes......
