Uneven ride height

Featured Replies

My VRS 170Tdi has a big difference in wheel clearance front to back.

100mm clearance between front tyres and front wheel arches and 60mm clearance on the rears.

Does anyone else have a similar issue? Could the dealer have left the suspension stops in?

Have a look and see, should look black and rubbery

Take your shopping out of the boot!!

Took my shopping out of the boot and checked under wheel arch (once I knew what I was looking for - should have done this earlier I know) and guess what...

The dealer left the chocs in - not very happy.

Is there a chance damage could have been done over the last 2500 miles with them in?

Mine too! Has taking these things out made a difference? Can't see anything out of place under the arches, sorry to be dim but where am I looking exactly and what for? Is it a back to dealer problem?

Many thanks

I presume I'm looking under the front?

Anyone got a pic of these in place? Could be a useful addition to Stu's site as a "common fault"?

The ones in mine were black high density rubber there were at least 2 on each side - possibly more - I couldn't see around the back. They look like those things your wife / GF puts between her toes when painting her nails!! About 3/4 inch thick and about 6in long. Wish I'd taken a picture but was too angry at the time and raced to the dealer to have them removed instead...

Wouldnt like to see your Mrs's toes ;)

Hi, I collect my new vRS (estate and tdi) this saturday, but worryingly it sounds like there is a common problem with the 'chocs' not being removed during the PDI.

Where are these located? Front or rear. And is this a DIY job?

Cheers

The ones left on mine were in the front - I'm not sure if they are also in the back.

You could do it yourself but you need to jack it up fully to allow the spring to extend and take the compression off the choc.

I wanted to go to my nearest Kwikfit to get it done but my dealer was quibbling over the cost. Best to look at the gap between wheel and arch when you collect it. On mine it was uneven about 100mm on front and 60mm on the back. It should be the same front and back and around 60mm.

Enjoy your car - you won't be disappointed - the more miles I do in mine the more I appreciate it's blend of speed refinement and load space.

Front only.

Thanks for the advice.

I was very impressed on the test drive; as you say speed, refinement and space. Plus even more torque and twice the mpg of my current Impreza WRX or beloved Integrale! Originally I was going to downsize to a Fabia vRS, but my wife said it was too impractical. Just when I thought the dream of a sporting diesel was over she offered to pay into the deal too if I got the Octavia vRS. Cool.

Practical and exciting... and with the wife paying too! You don't hear of that very often!
