Which motor oil are you using?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I am very new to this forum and skoda cars as well.

I would like to hear your opinions and experiences with motor oils for octy 1.8 turbo.

I'm using Mobil 1 Synthetic 0w-40 (VW spec), but that's because of the average ambient temperature where i live (the caribbean). Since you live up there, the other guys will probably tell you something else. Also, big brands say when their oil is approved by VW. Read the label in the back, it should say something like VW 502.00 505.00 500.00 etc etc. Check which matches the one in the car manual. In theory, if VW approves it, it should be fine.

If the car is set for variable service intervals, you need to use a spec VW 503 00 oil or the newer spec VW 504 00. Choose any from the lists below or any others which now meet those specs:

I Castrol SLX LongLife II 0W-30 from new and am currently using Fuchs TITAN Supersyn SL PCX SAE 0W-30, both VW 503 00 LongLife fully synthetic 0w-30 oils.

For me, 1st choice is castrol RS,b'cos at one time MAKRO had a offer @12.99pounds +vat, so i cleared thier self at the time. 2nd choice halford fully synthetic oil:thumbup: . When these oil first introduce back years ago @14.99 pound but now cost over 32pounds 5lt ...the halford oil is just as good as to the others only different bottle. And Halford always has offers 1/2 price oil sale:) , that is time to stock up:cool: .

Ill be putting what ever quality oil meets the VW specs when i come to do mine.

Nothing personal but i would never use halfrauds oil in my car

Cheers guys for very quick replies.

I was thinking of something simmilar from opie oils website

Motul 8100 x-cess 5 w40 , Mobil 1 0 w40 or castrol edge 0 w40. full synthetics.

I hope those would be just fine for turbo engine.

Did anybody notice any difference in practice between 5 ( or 0) w40 and 5 (or 0) w30?

Why not? Its not as if they make it up themselves "out-the-back"

Also missing from this list are the Millers long life oils ... I had some XF Long life put in my PD-130 in November 2005 for its first service.

I use shell fully synthetic.

For hard driving, the recommended oil in my Elise, which has a 1.8t KE04 engine is as follows:

"The recommended engine oil is Silkolene Pro S 5-40 or Castrol RS 0-40 or Mobil 1 equivalent. Keep within + 5 or – 10 mm of the upper mark."

Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40.

I use Lucasoil 0w30 (Exceeds all vw bmw merc spec and SM) and 5lt

They're New to the UK but in america they are supplier to K&N workshops and Ford Run Special Vehicle Owners club aswell as being official oil supplier to the National Hot Rod Acc and Drag champoinships

Cant really argue when at the moment at being retailed bout £30-34 in uk same if not cheaper than Halfrauds stuff

Why not? Its not as if they make it up themselves "out-the-back"

Simply because oil companies spend millions if not more on developing it. Now if they open said who makes/ develops their oil id be willing to use it.

To me oil is like tyres and servicing. Its not worth cutting corners on unless you are 100% sure that your getting a bargin.

Nothing personal but its just my preference

Its like Fuel from Tesco, It wasn't Esso BP Mobile it was greenfuel co or somthing.

The end result kak fuel that cost alot of money to put right.

Halfords 12 years ago when the first got there own brand up n running used Esso but because there greedy they probobly use second rate suppliers now to keep costs down but profits to a max.

You can't compair the likes of Miller/mobil or Lucasoil to halfrauds stuff there in a differant league for protection and long lasting stability.

by a Brand that is proven. You can't go wrong:thumbup:

Im going to be using Mobil 1 come service time. Costco sell it for £23 for 4l.

What about a 2002 90bhp TDI? What oil would you recommend for that?

Can i use synthetic stuff in that?

i see that many guys are using 0w-30. isn't it to thin for the remapped octy 1.8t?

i guess it has great flowing properties.

did anybody try motul x-cess 8100 5w-40? i've got very good experience with that oil in my former car toyota avensis vvt-i.
