ECU Swap Query

Featured Replies

Currently own:-

Sept. 2004 vRS with Chipboost re-map.

May 2006 Jazz Sport

Normally I drive the vRS, my wife drives the Jazz.

Selling on Jazz to our daughter, about end of April and replacing with new Ltd.Edition vRS just ordered.

So by May we will have 2X vRS in the family.

Query on the ECU is:-

Once new vRS Ltd. is fully run in, could I simply swap over the ECU's between the 2 vRS's to effectively re-map the new Ltd.Edition and return 2004 car to original state of tune, prior to at some later date selling on the 2004 vRS?

In other words, could the new 2007 vRS run with the re-mapped 2004 ECU and vice-versa without any other problems.

If so, I would of course add a PD160 air trumpet and declare to insurance company.

Just a thought!

Dave.

I believe the ECU's will not be "swopable" as the ltd edition has the euro IV engine, and the '04 will have the euro III engine.... different EGR valve ect.....

(I could , of course, be wrong! I'm sure a tecchie will come and advise soon ;) )

Most likely wouldnt work. If the cars were of the same age and had the same ECU code then it can be done, but some coding needs to be done with vag-com or by the dealer to get the cars ecu coded to the imobiliser in the instrument cluster.

sorry its not possible to change the ecu's over, skoda made some changes to the software on the bosch edc15p ecu in the middle of 2005 iirc. and then completey changed it with the indroduction of the euro 4 BLT engine in 2006.

It can be done buts its not a straight swap, the EDC15P+ ecu is the same design in each car but as others have said the software has changed a few times since 2004.

The IMMO would also need coding or removing before the car would start.

Best bet is another remap thats designed to also help reduce the stutter

perhaps the only way is to give it a go and see. The immo coding is fiddly, but I've done the swap. You need the code number for each ECU.

Most maps are usually generic, even if you're told otherwise from what I've heard....

I doubt a ECU will swap between the ASZ and BLT engines, different code.

Thanks for your replies guys. Concensus is that such an ECU swap is not on for reasons stated in replies.

I will probably leave the 2004 re-mapped car alone and at a later date re-map the Ltd.Edition.

Best plan. :) Why have only one of them remapped when you can have both. You can swap between the same gen of Fabia - I did this with my old pd100 engine, swapping between 2 Y-plate ECUs, but it needed the 4 digit immobiliser code and vagcom to complete the swap over, and even THEN, as the ecu had been remapped to a different car, it didn't put out the same power in the new one. It needed another fettle by Jabbasport.
