For any Mini lovers, interesting conversion

Featured Replies

Love it:D and it sounds awesome

Like it, mid mounted is interesting. I have a friend who has a Rover V8 in need of some work, which was bought with this conversion in mind. (hes currently building an A seies turbo engine instead, think the V8 might come next)

Another friend of mine has a twin cam Vtec converted mini, that is currently on the quest for over 200bhp, (last dynoed at 188bhp at Aldons RR). His favorite past time is chasing Imprezas and Evos, then passing them, all are usually mistifed how it does it at first, cause unless you now what to look for it looks standard. All brilliant fun.

 i was heavily into the old minis and had thought i'd seen it all , ford v6s in the front , alfasud engines in the back etc , but that conversion is unreal ,mid engined V8 transversally mounted , i would be interested to know what transmission he is using

one thing though , i bet the neighbours love him revving it up and flying up and down the cul-de-sac :(

Always wanted a 1275 GT when I passed my test, but sadly the insurance quotes were more than the car was worth!!

I've seen the V-Tec & Vauxhall 16V conversions & thought to myself that these would be a nice little project in the future.

V8 Mini - Mental!!

Ive seen this done where the V8 is in the front, driving either front or rear, not sure (probably rear)

The Vtec conversion for the price of a mini with a knackred front end, (accident damaged would be ideal, provided the rest of the shell is good), say around £500, give or take, panels to repair, plus second bonet, and pair of wings, say £100, conversion kit IIRC you will get change from £2000, a decent 1.6 twin cam Vtec, £1000, an aftermarket ECU eg a DTA (this is what my friend has) circa £1000 (can be found cheap on Ebay ocassionally)

Then with a custom wiring loom, lots of filling to hiding the joins in the extended panels, you have a relativly looking standard mini that will manage 0-60 in around 5 seconds, and top 100mph in not much more.

Certainly! I'd get pretty annoyed within a few minutes....

The Suzuki Swift GTI engine fits quite nicely in the front of a Mini too, and gives surprisingly good performance, for a fraction of the price of a Vtec.

Wow what a car! Dont know how useable it will be, but the buzz you would get every time you hit the loud pedal would be Class A automotive fix every time.

If it sounds like that, he can drive it up and down our cul-de-sac all day. Just as long as I get a go in it;)
