Time for a real car

Featured Replies

my son has just had his insurance quote come through ...with two years no claims  ...and he has found out it is cheaper to insure a new Octavia 2.0 tdi pd 140 elegance than his Fabia Vrs ...come to that it is cheaper to insure the Octy tdi Vrs than the Fabia Vrs  so he is looking out for a good, 3 to 12 months old low mileage Octy elegance or maybe Sport pd140 ( the Vrs tdi is out of reach price wise).

So what are the best optional extras to go for ( he doesn't want another black magic car ) so maybe flamenco red or stone grey would do.

Any ideas on trade in price for a mint 05 Fabia Vrs with parking sensors, cruise, and Xennons with less than 8,000 on the clock against a fairly new Octy?

Got to be between £8500 and £9000 part ex. :)

 Thought the Octy TDI VRS was in the region of group 15..... Fabia VRS is a 9! The world of insurance must be going mad

My Octy is very similar to insure as my Fabia was.

Forgot to say I like the Sport in Silver.

Yeah but your an old git.

cost of new octy vs value of old fabia vs small difference in insurance???

but he would rather like a bigger car:)

How many miles has HE done in the Fabia?

well both of them Octy deisels are slower than the fabia vRS :P

But it's the extra toys you get as well that he likes ....plus he has his seat all the way back, so if someone gets in the back they come out crippled for life  ........0 to 60 is about the same, top speed is about the same and the octy doesn't have those funny windy things for the windows in the back doors :) also has a boot that drips water in when you open it :o .

I think he has driven about 3,000 miles since he had it, and he is now totally fed up with trying to keep black magic paint clean.

something else to add to the list of extras on his car.......electric sunroof

Bigger cars tend to be cheaper than small cars. Having said that I was amazed with the quote I got for a Fabia vrs. I am going from grp 20 to 9 though :D

I'm guessing you have shopped around for a quote, or is he set on an Octy now?

but he would rather like a bigger car:)

thats fair enough then.,.. way it first read u were gonna buy a new car to get cheaper insurance!!

There will be a Superb up for sale next year...and then I will see what is around....if they can sort out the Octy tdi Vrs then I may try the estate version of that ....but won't have another Superb until it comes out as an estate/combi and the exhaust fiter is put right.

I'd say the PD140 Octy and the Fabia vRS are both about the same on straight line performance. Handling wise, the Octy (on sports suspension) feels a lot better planted and controlled, but I've not had the chance to rag a vRS Fabia around on my favourite roads for a proper comparison.

However, it is noteable when I got out of my Octy into a Fabia vRS just how cheap feeling the Fabia is . . . feels like a van in a lot of ways actually, upright windscreen, lower window sills and noisy engine.

Octy Elegance is a sound bet I reckon. :)

if you take the quoted figures from the Octy TDi VRS and Fabia vRS then the Power to weight ratio of both cars works out as

Octy TDi VRS 108BHP/Kg

Fabia vRS 109BHP/Kg

:P

I will want a trip to the pod with someone to test the fabia vRS (Standard) against Octy VRS TDi (Standard) to proove :D

When you getting yours Mr Octygone Because I may not be modding mine just yet

well both of them Octy deisels are slower than the fabia vRS :P

My Octy SDI was quicker than you Labia vRS :haha:

and yours is Bigger .... so I've heard ;)
