I am still in 2 minds whether a 2003 Octy vRS with 25k on the clock needs a belt change.
I had mine changed at just over 4 years and 18k. It is far cheaper to change it than have to pick up the very expensive tab if it breaks. Plus I have an extended warranty, one of the conditions of which is that the car must be serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

Of course it is cheaper than if it goes. It shall get done at some point in the near future. I just think they are cashing in on peoples paranoia to get it done at exactly the 4 year service.

What made them change it from 80K ( is that right ? ) to 4 years?

Belts snapping............................and being sued for damages.

I emailed Skoda UK the other week to get the 'official' line on when to replace the cam belt on my MK1 TDI Elegance. They said 150,000km (just over 93,000 miles) or 4 years, whichever comes first.

Star performance, Fife , got back to me.

Set price of £299inc vat for belt, tensioner, waterpump, roller, coolant & Pk belt.

And £85 for a service.

Ha ha ... my local dealer (Platinum, Bath) just quoted me for cambelt, water pump and 40k service ....... £800. Thinking I might just go somewhere else... :-)

... and I forgot to say ... after I'd said "cambelt change for an 03 Octy vRS", they asked me the following:

- so, is that the petrol or diesel model?

- is that the 1.8 or the 2.0 litre

- is that the 120, 150 or 180bhp engine?

Hmm ... nice to know they really know about the cars.

I was quoted

I just had it replaced today on my octy.

work was carried out by autotechnic . a small independent garage in hurst, berkshire.

Home - Autotechnic (Independent Audi and VW Service and Repair Specialist)

I was charged 217 pounds for a cam belt kit change ( parts, labor inc. vat)

I supplied a water pump with metal impeller. I bought it from gsf parts for 25 pounds.

There was an additional small charge of 10 pounds for fitting that waterp pump.

It comes all together up to around 260 pounds.

I vas very happy with price and their work as well.
