sounds like loose linkage over speed bumps

Featured Replies

Hello

When my 53 VRS goes over a speed bump it sounds like a metallic loose linkage sound as the front tryes hit the normal pavement.

Any ideas and cost to fix??

Thanks

Mines started to do exactly the same thing,

I read somewhere its a common fault and its got something to do with how the anti-roll bars work??

Does you car really "squeak" underneath too?! Mine sometimes does it when I shut the door.... Soooo annoying!!

When mine squeaked on closing the passenger door, it was the radiator mounts, which were replaced under warranty.

This is what solved my squeeky problem, had the mounts done first and this didnt solve the problem so skoda replaced the radiator brackets and this worked.

I wouldn't say mine squeaks and the rattle I get over the speed bump is dimished if you go slowly( very slowly) yeah I know that there for.

What kind of common fault are you referring to?

Probably another victim of the plastic arb sleeves (although should have been sorted by a 53 plate). probably arb bushes.

Maybe the droplinks from ARB to strut have shot?

i had the same on my vrs it was the anti roll bar bushes,it used to do my head in allways banging over little bumps

Its going in for a service next month and as its still got some warrenty left, ill get them to check it out. Thanks for the advice.

I did manage to get under mine the weekend, couldn't get it to recreate the noise, bouncing the front of the car, rocking, jacking up and checking, but a did get a similar squeak from the exhaust somewhere down the front, hopefullly be able to get it on the ramp at work for a further investigation, but agreed it's pigging anoying!!

I don't think so, but here is a thread from when I did mine: http://briskoda.net/octavia-i/vrs-front-bumper-removal/117380/ You might find the photos useful.

Exhaust hanger?

Had the same on my vRS.

Defo; anti roll bar drop links...same symptons as mine, replaced both, noise now gone

My 04 vRs sqeaks over speed bumps and when i shut the door. Will sort arb bushes/links soon.

Then mine will need taxing . . . . . .

Then hers will need rear tyres . . . . . . .

Then it will be xmas . . . . . . . .

JimF, try rocking the radiator on the Octy. If it squeaks then, well it's the rad mounts, which can be replaced or just wedged.

mine has a knocking/rattling noise when just driving slowly over the odd bump. turns out its the steering rack bearings... and can only replace the whole unit.

I am going for this one too.

You can test these by getting someone to bounce the car up and down at the front (bonnet open and pushing down on the slam panel) whilst you place your hand through the wheel and hold the drop link. You will feel any slight knocking or looseness. Sometimes the bolts come loose and need a tighten up. These can also wear very quickly if disturbed for example, when removing to replace shocks.

Got the same issue with the VRS, turns out that the exhaust mount has broken away on the front silencer and is 'rubbing' against the exhaust causing the screeching kind of noise

Replaced my arb bushes, drop links and balljoints over the weekend. Car feels tighter, quieter and no knocking now.

The plastic sleeve on the arb drivers side had disintegrated so fitted bush with 17mm hole. Passenger side ok so fitted standard bush with 19mm hole.

Have not tried rocking rad yet but may do just to be sure.
