my fabia feels a little off...

Featured Replies

when ever i drive it at the mo it feels a little fragile, not to sure what to pin it on...it is due for its service soon, its on 72k im not sure if its me imagining things but it doesnt feel as quick as it did before i arrived at coventry...

the roads are absolutly rubbish! pot holes big enough to get your wheels stuck! anyway it seems to give out more rattles and funny noises than driving anywhere else in the uk....and now my door makes a funny rubbery noise when i go over any bump or pot hole:(

the 1st gear feels like it slips sometimes if i really push it... erm what else... it doesnt grip as well in the wet these days but i think thats down to my tyres, i just feel i need to back off and cant drive it like i normally do:( my clutch feels a bit heavyer than normall my breaks are a bit woody! i think i need new pads aswell :P

just having a little rant! oh and some idiot took something out of my boot and scratched the bumper:mad:

anyway... a heavyer clutch, and slipping in 1st can work out if its just wheel spin or clutch slip only happens sometimes.... do i need a new clutch?

Give it a thorough wash and polish. They always go better and sound nicer after that.

i think that might be it! it always feels perkyer after its been washed and polished!

Heavier clutch - older rmotor this signified the clutch was on its way out. Sorry to have to respond this way - i.e. bad news.

Service due - this should help.Wash and polish as Mike Austin mentioned - a defo helper.

72k bound to habe some wear etc.

Smile, live with it. Think "Summer is around the corner".

Be happy !

And, yes, the roads are appalling.

18 and all these worries - what you gonna be like at my tender age of 54 ?

Had a schoolfriend die at 33. lots of other tragedies on the way.

Enjoy the car, enjoy your company - you never know what tomorrow brings.

It's a thing that one (meaning me LOL) tends to drive the car differently (heavy handed and lead footed) when worried about something else and notice absolutely everything (indoors as well as the car). I agree with the cleaned and vacuumed approach, since whatever else is going on, at least I have a nice shiny clean car to get into :) It helps to focus on something else

Does that thing about sticking a 2-pence piece into the tyre tread still apply? Not sure how one measures tread oneself, but might be worth focussing to make sure they're OK?

all my other tryes have a good few millimeters, and its just the one on the drivers side front thats just about to touch the limit! im not sure why its like that  i know roundabouts can make one side less worn than the other

As you know, I know nothing. I know that if one bumps a kerb it can upset the tracking and will cause a tyre to wear unevenly. Not sure I've heard of anything otherwise that'd account for just one tyre wearing. Were the two front tyres new at the same time?

Checking/correcting tracking used to be cheap, but on Fabias now includes caster and camber :ne_nau: so not sure how much your local garage would charge.

Hopefully someone who knows about cars will come along shortly :)

i know when i bought new tyres back along, they were all fresh and black:D

thanks mo!

Sounds like you need a new Fabia ;)

Has it worn unevenly across the tyre or just worn faster than the passenger side tyre? Things to check would be tracking/wheel alignment, correct inflation, suspension on it's way out.... I'd imagine roundabouts would just wear the shoulders of the tyres (at least they do on mine :o)

As for the rest, car is getting older and you're getting used to it. Sell it and get something quicker .... repeat every 6-12 months ;)

it just seems like thw hwole of the tyre has worn down evenly?! its odd the rest seem in good nick they still have the new tyre spikes on the side of the rim!

i feel sorry for people with motorbikes and the cyclists if they couldnt avoid one! theres a really bad example of 2 huge pot holes you could put a watermelon in each one wich is on a T junction so theres no way unless you go super wide to avoid it! the other alternative is to go the other way but its just hassle:(
