Last the life of the car... and if you ever have to have them milled flat you can sell the dust to pay for the work :D

I take the general point - steel rusts just live with it ...but I'm struggling to get my head round why I never saw it on my MK1 L&K - alright the alloys weren't as delicate but I'm sure the problem wasn't there or if so nowhere near as bad / noticeable?

Could someone concur?

Why spend money to improve the aesthetics of a car by adding fancy alloys and red callipers if all you do is draw attention to this unsightly (supposed) non-problem?

When I look around other cars in my co car park there are no obvious models with the same centre body of disk rusting issue.

Can't decide whether to give up and look forward to them gaining a consistent orange glow - clashing with the red callipers - or get shirty with SUK customer service - to no end.

Mine were rusty from the day I got it but the dealer rubbed them down and repainted them for me.

The dealer will paint them for you, it is just that it will be chargeable.

The MK I Octy did exactly the same with OEM and brembo discs.

If it does nag you you could use EBC or similar discs with a coating on to stop them rusting there.

Like we have said it isnt really a fault, depends on your dealer if they will do anything or not.

After some badgering about goodwill - my dealer finally repainted mine. No recurrence so far. Seems the painting during manufacture is a bit shoddy to me.

Remember seeing a machined titanium disc set on aluminium carriers made up for an Aston Martin. No idea how well or otherwise they worked.

They were going on the old Virage Vantage, so must have had a pretty hard life!

After much badgering I finally got my dealer to repaint my hubs. They now look great and no sign yet of recurrence after nearly a month. Check out the pics.

Withams are good. Not too far from me and used them for a few parts as they were cheaper than my usual dealer, Marlborough.

On the hub rust issue, a little warning. Had the same on my Octy mk1 month or so back. Dealers these days inspect the brakes through the alloys, and as such don't take them off. Trying to change to the spare was impossible, so out came the RAC and had to prise the wheel off - not something to try on the std car jack, only on a proper jack as he had.

He advised me to ensure the alloys are taken off by the dealer every service, and copper-slipped to stop them seizing to the pads!

I've heard this is a common issue on all makes of cars - something to do with the alloys fusing to the hubs - even brand new cars are affected. I guess I'll enjoy them until someone needs to take a mallet to it to remove the wheel.

Looks like one complete casting to me IMHO

Over the last couple of weeks i've noticed that there is an identical patch of rust on each of the four wheels and discs. It only affects one smallish area. I then realised that I'd taken it into a "hand car wash" and they'd blasted the wheels with a jet wash and of course the vehicle was stationary hence the same area being affected on each wheel.

20 years ago I bought a motorbike and there was a section in the owners manual warning against using jet washes on wheels and brakes as it could get into seals and bearings.

Mystery solved.

Use Copperslip on the inside wheel surface that contacts the hub, and on the wheelnut threads. Great stuff.
