Jumbo box - I don't get it!

Featured Replies

My car is fitted with a Jumbo box, yes it finishes off the interior nicely, but what practical purpose does it have apart from somewhere to put your elbow? I was led to believe it would cool my drinks/chocolate, but on reading the manual it says that warm air will go in there?

I want to put cold air in the jumbo and in the glovebox, surely no one would actually want warm air in either their jumbo or glovebox?

Dave.

Why not would keep your chips warm on the way back from the chippy ;)!!

Ours seems to stay cool tho when the aircon is on and the wee leverything pulled up

Don't you mean chip:rofl:  'jumbo' is a bit of a misnoma (sp)

The jumbo box is airconditioned and linked into the climate control. I have kept drink cans in there in the summer on a long drive, and they certainly came out cool. If you turn off the A/C or use econ mode then the air entering the jumbo box is at ambient temperature.

I suppose what is happening is that the air conditioned flow isn't cold this time of year so the jumbo box gets warm. Thing is, the manual doesn't say the jumbo box is for cooling, it specifically states it's for warming (I'm reading the manual in front of me now).

Strange.

Dave.

There is a vent in the jumbo box which you can switch on or off and therefore pump in air conditioned/warm air as and when you want or need. There is a similar function in the glove box too.

Yep, I know that. But what I'm getting at is the manual says this:

On vehicles fitted with air conditioning, the storage compartment is equipped with a lockable inlet for thermally treated (warmed up) air.

So far the jumbo has behaved exactly as per the manual, ie the air inside when the valve is open is warmer than the rest of the car.

Dave.

Confusing, the next paragraph says.

At open air supply, air flows into the storage with a temperature which as high as the one out of the air outlet nozzles, depending on temperature setting

mannyo, yeah, it's got me completely foxed. I guess in practical terms it keeps stuff cold when it's hot outside the car. But you probably won't be able to keep stuff cold when it's cold outside!

Dave.

my kid thinks that a jumbo box is a place to keep elephants....

I think the Jumbo box air outlet is linked to the air duct that supplies the rear passenger air vents so it will only chill the compartent if the aircon is set low.

The glovebox must be supplied before the heater matrix as the air is freezing on a day like today despite the climate control set to 23 degrees and pumping out hot air.

the Jumbo box works well in the summer when the climatronic is set to 19-20 degrees. It cools my cans in about 1 hour.................ish.

And if you lift up the armrest to a comfortable level for driving, so the Jumbo Box is open.....?

Unless Dodgy has spoken to Steve, pleading on my behalf, I "wont get it" either. ;)

And anyway, a bottle of Bollinger doesn't fit, so what's the point in having one anyway!

Resting yer arm when driving........indeed; controling the rear windows whilst sitting in the front.........as if, I ask you.......; fancy being able to have two different temp settings at the same time. An Aux connectinon? Who wants to have several hundred CD's at yer fingertips when you can limit yourself so easilly by just loading up the disc changer in a non time consuming way? Don't talk to me about yer so called jumbo boxes.

(This last paragraph works better if read in the style of Marvin the Paranoid Android :) )

Those dratted cyclists, riding up and down Telegra!ph Road, holding up the traffic.....eh Dave. Something should be done about it!

My Jumbo just holds a pair of gloves and some wipes. I don't much care if my gloves are warm or cool!!!

Haven't you explained to them that elephants go in the trunk?

Congratulations on being the oldest necroposter I've seen so far!

The kid is 25 now, a charted architect with children of his own.

Bet the poor sod still does not know what a Jumbo box is for!
