Phillips 80% Bulbs

Featured Replies

Hi all,

2 Weeks today and i shall be in posession of my nice shiny new vRS Octy. Sold my other car 2 days ago and i forgot just how much i had relied on it. Now im currently driving round in my LPC (leather personnel carrier i.e SHOES!!!! ). But this time in 2 weeks i shall be mobile again:D .

Already booked and ordered a dension ice link plus to be fitted when i go back to UK on leave. was goona order a HID kit from HIDS4U however SWMBO decided she wants to test the capacity of the car at tesco's (wont be refulling there!!) before driving back to germany (apparantly Diet Coke from the UK tastes different to Diet Coke in germany). So i gotta wait for HID kit

So i was wondering has anyone tried these new phillips 80% bulbs. Apparantly they are the Dogs Cojones of none HID Bulb upgrades. This is my compromise till i get HID and wanted to know if they really are as good as they say or am i better just sticking with osram silver stars???

Cheers

Carl

powerbulbs.co.uk was out of them when I last looked - but surely brighter low-beams can confuse on the road? I mean if you want 80% more brightness surely you just get more wattage?

having said that I have the 30% brighter low-beams and they're nice.....

Which are best, there or the phillips 100w bulbs

I think the 100W bulbs are not officially legal for normal use - the package says off road use only IIRC.

But there are a few on here that use them anyway.

I got a Buy One Get One Free on Halfords own brand bulbs - certainly a lot better than the standard ones. I think they call them Super Brillance - if you have a search there is a picture of them in the guide I did for bulb changing.

I have the 50%+ Philips which are OK but I was expecting more from them :( . Looks like these are something else to be added to the wish list!.

Apparantly these bulbs are the same as the 50% ones but have shorter thicker glass so gas pressure is increased and therfore gives more light output.

SWMBO just said whats so special does it light up like all the others?? How naive the fairer sex is lol

Autolamps now have the 80% (Philips Xtreme Power)ones in stock. I've just fitted them today, so I'll let you know what I think of them in a couple of days

Having gone from a MK1 L&K with Xenons as std, I needed to upgrade the bulbs on my VRS (couldn't afford the Xenon option). Reading the Autoexpress test I went for Phillips Blue Vision for side and dipped beam and Osram Cool Blue's for Full beam. They are a (surprisingly) good substitute for proper Xenon's and you save £500. Worth thinking about when speccing your car.

I have now been running the new Philips Xtreme (80% brighter)headlamps since Sunday. They seem to cast a strong and very well spread white light in the near distance, but at longer range the improvent over the 50% ones I had before isn't as obvious.

I would say the same. I have had them in my Octy and my Leon for two weeks now. They were an improvement over the standard Leon bulbs, but not much of an improvement on the Octy's Philips Bluevision's I had in.

They are good though and I would recommend them as a bulb upgrade
