tiscali broadband?

Featured Replies

Hi!

Anyone using tiscali braodband. They have three otions - x3, x5 and x10.

It was the cheapskate x3 package that caught my eye on the TV, by its only 150kbps connection (hence 3x faster). @ 15.99 a month it seems OK, but will there be enough of a speed increase over my existing 56k modem?

May be better to go for x5 (256kbps)?

What do you plan to use it for?

If ist just surfing the net then 150k will be a big step up from a modem.

Its not just the transfer rate , but the extra responsiveness that makes a difference.

If you want to download TV shows and films then 512k is a minimum

Don't forget that a dial up would be max 36k, not 56k, so it is almost 5 times faster already. That said, I have been lucky enough to enjoy 512k for the last 1.5 years and I wouldn't be without it.

yep me too been on tiscali 512k for about 6 months would def rec worlds apart from 56k

Max 36K Q?

My Ntl dial-up always ran at between 49 and 56K, same when i was with BT :puzzled:

However..

Having had 600 or 1 Meg cable for the last few years, i'd sell the PC before i went back to any sort of dial-up connection :D

I've recently upgraded from 600K to 1 Meg NTL Broadband. It's a quantum leap, and I would thoroughly recommend going for the fastest connection available - if you can afford it.

Shame about the e-mail service though Denis. Ntl's biggest downfall

I agree, Geoff, although a recent e-mail from NTL indicated that they are taking steps to improve their e-mail service. Meanwhile I am finding their connection 'flaky' at times.

I won't hold my breath for the new improved email service...

I have to say, if i still had a BT line some of these ADSL providers would be tempting, but i wouldn't let BT near the house if they paid me for access :)

Was going to go for the Tiscali x3 myself but....we can't get broadband as we're too far from the exchange.

BT do a similar package.....can't remember all the details apart from the fact they wanted

I have the 3x tiscali broadband and have had no problems.

Only used to connect at 29-32K on dial up so much quicker. At last test it was 148K so 5x quicker than before. If iwant to download big files just leave it running during the day or use works 2meg.

You get a free modem and connection with the 3x and 10x packages but not the 5x.
