If you're on 17', you'll always have a lot of road noise. On 18' even worse. There are many posts arround here about tyres. Some brands give you less road noise but you'll never get rid of it.

the Conti's on my Fabia are noisy too, but are getting quieter!

Kumho KH-11s, VERY quiet, perform well and cheap. Had a full set fitted to my Megane after the factory fit conti sport contact IIs. Much better. Have replaced the dreadfully loud Bridgestones on my Octavia with them too.

I've got Dunlop Sportmax (just replaced the fronts after 16500 miles. First set were noisey ......so are these). However I knew what it was like cos the demo VRS was exactly the same. I don't find it intrusive and certainly not something that gets on me nerves. Just look at all the other plus points.

Yes i agree the plus points far outweigh the minus ones

Will have to turn the stereo up a tad:D

I have had my Octy II vRS for 2 months/2,000 miles now and while there are many good points, the incessant and RIDICULOUSLY loud road roar from the Bridgestone's I have fitted on my factory 17" alloys is in danger of putting me off the whole car. about half my driving is on motorways and above 70mph the roar is ridiculous (turning up the standard-fit Stream ICE not really an option as above moderate volume levels this is crap). I swapped from a BMW 120d shod with 16" Michelin Pilot Primacy's which were SILENT. I cannot believe that one inch larger alloys makes this much difference. It must be a combination of v loud Bridgestone's and the fact there seems to be no sound deadening in the car at all!! real shame that it is currently ruining what is otherwise a very good car.

Are you on 17" or 18" wheels; either way from my experience the Conits suffer badly from Road Noise.

Personally, I'm getting Michelin Pilot Exalto 2s fitted to my dealer fit 18" wheels. I have these on my fabia at present and they are fairly quite, certainly quieter that Michelin Primacys (considering that all low profile tyres are noisy and the lower the profile the noisier the tyre).

Whilst I've recommended Michelins you could try Falken 452s that have also been suggested as beeing quite quiet and importantly somewhat cheaper. See this thread; - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/time-some-new-rubber/74006/2/

Be bold; buy some new (quieter) tyres and then sell the Contis on e-bay, you ought to find someone to buy them to offset the cost of the new ones.
