Anyone bought a Diesel with a particle filter

Featured Replies

Below is an extract from a VW publication , Skoda operate the same system for DPF's so it echos what Ive already learnt. Did the dealer tell you the car was not suitable for certain driving conditions when you purchased it. If you dont want to comment publicly can you PM me.

The Warranty department have confirmed that if there is no fault on the vehicle and DPF regeneration has been unsuccessful due to the customers driving style and the customers failure to comply with the instructions in the handbook, DPF replacement will not be paid for by warranty.

Common causes for complaint

• Frequent short journeys – Regeneration conditions are not met.

Not recommended for sale in the Channel Islands and inner city driving.

• Customers who continue to drive the vehicle with DPF light on – Continued

driving with the DPF light on and without successful regeneration results in

excessive soot loading of the DPF, to a point where it is above 95% loaded.

At this point regeneration is not an option and replacement of the DPF is

necessary.

• Fault 18434 particle filter bank 1 malfunction – Common fault code. This does

not only relate to the DPF itself, but the entire exhaust gas handling system. This

can be caused by defective temperature sensors, pressure sensors, additive

system components (if applicable), poor connections, wiring issues, etc.

How are they going to sell them as taxis now. If they need to take them for a run rather than urban driving.

Looks like active regeneration will have to be considered for future regulations then, so that all cars can have one. This involves some form or heater element, fuel burn or microwave device that cooks the filter, when the soot loading is high enough. Costs a bomb though, and uses additional fuel!

The big question is, has anyone found a way to bypass the DPF yet. If they do then mines coming out of the system.

With the Superb it will hopefully be easier as its a seperate part of the exhaust. I believe with the Octy Rs it might be combined with the cat so a bit trickier, I dare say people like Miltec are already working on this though as there will be a definate demand from people who want to remap the Diesel RS

Mine on the Superb will have to stay on until the warranty expires but I have a couple of people working on solutions so lets just say its work in progress. It will need to be reversible though as the MOT legislation is bound to tighten up at some point. the perfect solution on the superb would be some sort of by pass pipe which can be switched back as & when required but thats going to be expensive to develop. With Mot's going to every 2 years having 2 exhaust sections & swap them around might be the answer, its just fooling all the sensors. I know this can be done as Someone in an office in Milton Keynes has told me it can but wont say how

But yours doesn't have one...

Are you sure?. I am just assuming it did.

AFAIK the Octy uses the 16v lump that's in my Passat, and that doesn't have a DPF. I wasn't 100% sure myself at first, but the 2007 Passat brochure now offers the DPF as a

I'm a working on it..

Stu, any luck with that picture for me :)

If anyone who has VAG COM and a DPF can get a set of logs for the pressure changes while driving that would be muchos appreciated.

Also, I don't suppose you have the rest of the details on that sheet where it mentions the correct pressure drop conditions do you stu.

PM on its way

Interesting find that - odd how these things often turn up in your inbox ;)

Like I said Mark it would be better for you to read the document.

Stuart - Are you going to log the stuff?

The only logs I could supply are the ones stacked outside for the logburner, I have neither the knowledge of the software, I have a lead if that helps ;)

Ok, well perhaps we'll get together sometime and give it a go.

Sounds like a good excuse for me to buy you a beer, whens the next local meet ?

we had a Focus 2.0 TDCI in the workshop , that had a blocked DPF , don't know the driving habits of the owner though , it was changed under warranty

What's the score with the Euro IV 1.9 TDI (105bhp), does this have a DPF?

Reason I ask is my 1.9TDI dosen't put any soot out of the back end at all, therefore I assume it has a DPF.

There is an L&B coming up but I'm not 100% I can make it yet.

Ford are allegidly in a worse financial position than VAG yet they still look after the customer.
