my rant for today!

Featured Replies

Just picked the vrs up from the stealers.

It went in for a 2nd gear whine and rear screen doing as it was starting to peal away from the car.

when i got to the garage at 6pm i walked past my car and saw that both front windows were open! wouldnt have bothered me but i had left my

rear window job was probably subcontracted out to a specialist windscreen fitter , but there is no excuse for someone not checking there work after the job was completed , did the wiper damage the paintwork ?

re the gearbox problem , if they know there is a problem but won't/can't fix it , i would ask them to change the gearbox oil to see if this improves the noise , they could also check whether there are any metalic bits in the oil that could show that the box has a definite problem , then they can report back to Skoda

i work for a Ford dealer and we have to on occasions tell customers that we are waiting for Ford to come up with a fix , especially for reprogramming the PCM software etc

thanks ric, ill give that a try on monday  no no damage to the paint work. the sales manager who sold me the car was the only person in when i collected the car and he witnessed the open windows and the wiper, so hopefully he will do something about it on monday.

thanks for the help john

Skudmissile, check your PM's.

There is a bloody fix for it! If, having changed the gearbox oil, your gearbox is still not performing as it should then it will have to be replaced. Is your car still in waranty?

:iagree: if they know there's a problem with the gearbox and they cant fix it they should just throw it away and fit a new/recon one.

when i got to the garage at 6pm i walked past my car and saw that both front windows were open! wouldnt have bothered me but i had left my £400 sony dvd player my orgin b2 and my £400 garmin sat nav in the glove box. the car was right at the side of the road and anyone could have just helped themslves to my stuff.

I once collected my car from a Seat dealer after a service once.

I walked in, saw the keys on the counter, took them and walked out without paying, there genuinely wasn't a member of staff on the showroom floor.

It's not that somebody had stolen the car but like you I felt that the opportunist could have stolen it/from it.

They called and I paid them the next day - the reason I took the keys and car was to prove a point, they now have a completely different way of returning peoples keys/cars now :D

Nice one Oliver! :-)

Funny you should mention this....mine also whines slightly in 2nd gear. Quite faint but the other gears don't do it at all. Warranty job?

Pulleyns are gonna love me..... :(

apparently "skoda technical are aware of the problem with the second gear on the earlier gearboxs and are in the process of determind a fix"

i smell something and its not too nice...........

i am going to get this in writing then go to an independent and get their opinion.

i would have thort that a fix for this would be to overhaul the gearbox or replace but hey what do i know i just drive the shed on wheels.

Sounds a bit like Skodas response to problems with the Fabia & the Superb, whats the betting its described by them as a phenomenum, that seems to be the pet "get out of fixing it " excuse used by Skoda for other design defects

haha just got off the phone to skoda customer service.

Apparently the whining is normal! and is not a defect......... my ar5e!

Sounds about right, was that the whining gearbox being the norm or is it now that they accept whining customers as the norm.

Sorry to sound synical but based on my experiences it sort of what I expected

i am starting to wonder where all the satisfied customers are that skoda keep blabbing on about. because i am yet to meet a totally satisfied customer.

This kind of attitude makes me want to get rid of the furby altogether and go back to jap manufactures.

I'm a fully satified customer, I've done 40,000 miles and nothing has gone wrong with the car, it's great to drive. My only problem is me behind the wheel.

It's down to VW and Audi etc for the engines and gearbox whine, they make them. if the parent company won't do anything about it, Skoda have no chance at all.

I think the gearbox will whine in the lower gears to a certain extent, there is alot of rotation and not much forward movement of the vehicle and you get torque wind up in the gears. Mine does it very slightly in second if you don't change gear straight away.

Reverse makes the most whining due to the smaller reverse gear in the box having to change the direction of the output shaft.

If you put your foot down hard and take it off in say second, you cause the momentum of the car to try and rotate the gearbox rather than the engine, and a slight whine will develope, or do some people have a whine all the time? This would sound more serious?

mine whines all the time in second, its quite annoying, skoda will put their findings in writing to me, so at least i will have some hard evidence if mine fails or becomes worse.
