Is the dealer at it?

Featured Replies

So my Octavia had it's 90,000 mile service this week and I was handed a list of work needing done.

New air-con compressor & dryer required

New wishbone bushes.

plus brake pads and disks on the front:really:

Having searched on here, it could either be the compressor clutch has gone, but I'm sure the dealer said the housing has cracked? I did suggest fixing it with gaffa tape but they didn't like that.:)

So is there an aftermarket compressor available? Did the VAG group use the same one on all it's models? There's a few on ebay with the same part number but the last letter is different.

The car as actually covered 98,000 mile. should it be needing new bushes.? I do mainly motorway mileage though I do tow a caravan a couple of times per year.

Any thoughts?

Things will be worn out at that sort of mileage, so it is reasonable to expect bushes to be worn as well as brake disks (when you replace disks the pads should be replaced at the same time). Sounds like the compressor has hit something and got damaged, officially when the air con system has been left without any gas in it for a period then the dryer should be renewed as a matter of course.

A compressor supplied and fitted from a Skoda dealer is in the region of

Possibly ask them, to show you or explain further in what's wrong with the dryer..

GSF do cheaper ac compressors for VAG cars, around £400 iirc.
