Has anyone had a problem with the gear linkage. Basically when you move the gear stick to the left or right it doesn't return back to centre when you let it go. Doesn't cause a problem with 1st 2nd and 5th but makes selecting 3rd and 4th difficult with it noe returning back to centre each time.

Any ideas folks ????

Car is 4 yrs old with 56k on the clock

Lubricate the cables and mechanism where they go into the top of the gearbox below the battery.

Mine had exactly this problem, traced my problem back to where the linkage joins onto the gearbox.Take out the connecting pin and 2 halfs of plastic sleve and clean the hole out with emery cloth or as i did, use a bolt or screw moved side to side.The alloy lever knucle tends to corrode and seize the the connecting pin in position.
