electronic engine management light

Featured Replies

Hallo folks - can anyone help please ? I bought a 02 Fabia from a reputable local Scoda garage 8 months ago. I have had the consistent problem of the EEM warning light failing to go off once the car is started. The garage have checked ecery thing and replaced some parts and consulted Skoda - and I believe them - BUT have not been able to locvate th trouble. They have offered to replace the car but have found it difficult to find a similar estate automatic. We dont really want to lose it BUT are aware of noxius fumes when the car starts in the morning and what i call fortnightly "tantrums" when it will suddenly take three kicks to start having cut out after stopping and occasional "drag" as though the petrol flow is inhibited for a mile or so Plus if this warning light stays on all the time as now how will we know if anything goes wrong and to quote ther book "drive with care to the nearest Skoda dealer". Lastly with this "fault", if we keep the car how will its value stand up when sold. The garage have been helpful but seem to say we often have trouble with VW/Shoda electronic systems etc. Thank you

Well, as someone suffering a similar problem, I think the thing they call a MAF sensor may be the culprit.

My light came on, went to the garage, they checked and reset it, the fault was "implausible value" - then it didn't come on at all ofr about 3 or 4 weeks.

It's just come on again, I'll wager the fault will be the same. It tends to happen when I have been sat, as I frustratingly do every too often, stuck in stationary traffic for a long time, (like today - avg mph: 11 - avg MPG: 29 - time for 20 miles- 2 hours-ish)

I'm gonna get it reset when I can be bothered, presumably I'll also have to fork out for a new MAF sensor too. However, my car runs fine, slightly lumpy crawling in traffic, (but so was my old felly). Yours though, sounds like a more severe case, I don't know if a really bad MAF sensor will fubar your running as you describe, but I would of thought a diagnostic would report on any problems with running.

I'm sure someone here will be able to point you in the right direction if I'm off-base.

I'm suffering with the engine management light (only had the car for 2 weeks), however when they plug it in it comes back with an unknown code. They reset it and it comes back. Any ideas?

I would have a read through the 1.4 16V EGR threads and pistion ring problems, is the car using oil?

As it's an auto it will have the 1.4 16V engine, probably code AUA.
