Cheap fuel imported from Spain - 43p / litre

Featured Replies

Evening chaps!

Theres a local garage near me offering the chance to purchase cheap diesel and petrol off them, I beleive both were 43p per litre (or something close).

The deal is this...

You pay

It sounds like a scam to me.

Although it may be worth risking it if you can purchase enough fuel to get your initial £100 back.

I think as long as they have paid 'local' duty on the fuel, in Spain, then within the EU, you will not have to pay any additional duty.

I think

I might be wrong and you will end up in jail.!

they will be working it that you are buying it from spain and have them ship it rather than them bring it in and you buying it then i would expect. i'd find others that have used it first though myself.

If its a reputable garage I cant see them doing something illegal or any scam.

They would be shut down pretty quick if anything was wrong.

Its Just a brand new garage, was a car sales company that went bust and was bought by this lot. I drive past it daily and have often wondered what they are upto, just a big banner with their name.

Motor Vehicle Protection Agency, searched t'internet and nothing.

I did see the tanker appear recently though and had an incling that something like that was going on.

I would also check out the quality of the fuel, including the cetone (?) and octane ratings. Might be different if the stuff is coming from Spain.

Think it would be legit as you say if it was effectively purchased in Spain. Long haul lorry drivers do this too effectively I believe by filling up in Calais, and then siphoning off the excess back home so that just enough is left to get back to Calais and repeat that cycle. At least that used to happen, not sure if the fuel price differences between here and France are steep enough to make that worthwhile anymore?

Its not worth it if thats all you're going over for. If you're going out for the day though its a small bonus. But don't fill up in the port, find somewhere just outside, much cheaper.

An update on this...

Yes it is the MVPA (Motor Vehicle Protection Agency) near Tillibody.

My brother has now paid his

I hope this is legit, as it would really be a big poke in the eye for the Government and all the tax we pay on fuel.

im sure if the fuel is "pump standard fuel" from spain then there would be no problems with it....

As mentioned tho were is the profit  costs of transportation alone must eat up several members £100 each trip. Sounds like its a scam (first few to sign up get their monies worth but once a flood of peeps sign up the company disapear) or it is chinese :D

The fuel at this present time is from Grangemouth, 15 miles away, it's the same fuel supplied to supermarkets etc, they are intending to go and get their own soon from the continent which is why they purchased a tanker.

The fuel is at current 35p a litre and you can fill up 50 litres in a 7 day period. the reason they can do this is because they have received allowances due to the main purpose of the garage being a research and development centre, i.e. reduction of carbon emmisions and increase in MPG due to the fitting of a 'device'

if you have this 'device' fitted you can claim free fuel......I asked what this device was and they wouldnt tell me, said the chap was waiting for a patent, but i caught a glimpse of one and it looks like those magnets you wrap around the fuel line.

I have no doubt this is the loophole they have found, but as long as a tank of fuel keeps costing me £17 I dont care :D
