Fabia vRS clutch biting lot lower suddenly

Featured Replies

I've searched the forums but can't seem to find an answer to why in the last 24 hours my OEM cluch suddenly seems to be biting a lot lower, like about 2-3" lower.

Surely if the long-suffering OEM slutch has been worn down, it should bite higher not lower (thanks Xav)?

Nothing clutch-wise has been messed with just yet (waiting for a chance to fit the Helix SMF + organic clutch, etc within about 2 weeks).

There is some slippage in high gear, low rpm and a heavy foot - I try to avoid this combo.

Could it be that I've timed my clutch change to perfection, or could the master/slave cylinder be going down the tubes?

Appreciate any comments..

Cheers

Bas

If your master slave cylinder had failed, or were going. You wouldn't be able to select a gear.

Thanks for the info mate-

I did have a problem selecting 3rd a while back - just re-aligned the shift mechanism and it was 100% sorted.

Just that I have to stomp the clutch to just off the floor to cleanly put it into gear - wasn't that way yesterday!

Strange -

Lummox mate - God of all things VAG - where are you???

I had an Alfasud once where the slave cylinder punched its way through the diaphram spring - the clutch still worked but howled when you put the pedal down because it was the static part of the bearing that was hitting the spring.

Because it was a hydraulic clutch (like the Fabia's) it took up the slack distance automatically, so you only noticed it when it failed catastrophically.

Um, it's as quiet as usual.

funny thing is that it seems back to normal now, but the clutch is slipping under load more - seems that the OEM clutch is on its way out.

:rubchin:

I think your oem clutch is still fine. I think you're just looking for a moral excuse to get your bits out of the boot :D

sounds like a problem with the slave or master cylinder, when you are after a sachs clutch give us a try we are very keen on price :)
