Featured Replies

lol....

I know alot of you on here are very careful not to let your fabia's run low....

But I managed a cool 2.2miles today after my trip computer indicated 0 miles of fuel left........

anyone beat that? :o

Pretty sure there was a thread on this (may have included the Octy), but there were some quite surprising figures! Over 30 miles I think  I'm a wimp when it comes to this sort of thing and fill up with 50-60 miles to go

Chris

I've gone approx 15 miles after displaying 0 miles & then bottled it.

when I was at the AA and they had the focus fleet, the fleet guys said the focus would go for 10 miles with 0 miles indicated..... so I guess they all build in a little leeway ;)

about 150 yards , off the M53 sliproad at Cheshire Oaks and into the Sainsburys garage

i've run out and stopped in 2 previous cars , one i could push to the above mentioned garage , the other i had to walk home to collect a brother and a can to drive me to the garage

In my Leon, completely different car, But I went for 30 miles or more, when my trip computer said 0.

20 miles!!

About 35 to 40 miles. :o

Forced to after not coming across a station between Calais and the Belgium border.....

ive never tried but how far did Mr J Clarkson manage on that item with an Audi A8 4.2(?) TDI on top gear some years ago...

It was the 4.0TDi Clarkson tested - London to Edinburgh and back again! 800 miles? Will have to find the episode and find how far he went on 0 :D

I'm too much of a wuss to try this, so I'm with Chris - fill up as soon as the reserve light comes on. Apart from when I realised the MX doesn't have a reserve light ;) - filled right up when I found a garage and found I had 3 litres left

Steve

i've done about 10 miles on the zero mark before chickening out and buying some petrol

I thought I was hardcore when it said 20miles left!!!

It was on last night on sky, I think he managed something like 50 miles and it started chugging.

The extra miles come from what fuel is in the line and the fuel pump, it probably only knows how much is in the tank and not the rest of the system.

Some say there is the possibility water etc in the very bottom but in reality, this is probably rubbish, people fill up and mix it all up too often, I know I do.

Hope nobody trys and runs out on the motorway, it's illegal to go on there knowing you don't have enough fuel for the trip on there.

:)

about ten miles with a very light foot, what level does the fuel have to be to drag all the crap from the tank through the filter ?

10-20 miles i'd say :)

I think clarkson went about 35-40 miles with it on 0, was on UKTVG2 yesterday :)

Crap in the tank is a myth I think, probably propagated by fuel companies! Petrol pumps have a filter so how does any crap get in the fuel tank in the first place? The tank feeds from the bottom, so any heavy stuff is already down there (if theres any in the first place) and I don't really see how anything that floats would get in.

Be careful it could be expensive :-)

I had to take a gas guzzleing ford escort back to head office for disposal

(as in twenty miles to the gallon) along with three other guys taking disposal vehicles back. they had fuel in cans in the boot and were to escort me, fair enough!

When we hit the motorway they all took off leaving me at the back, eventually I ran out of fuel, pulled onto the hard shoulder and used the emergency phone

explaining out of fuel

About an hour later, this huge breakdown truck (used for removing artics) arrived he pulled a one gallon can of petrol out of a cabinet, chucked it in, charged me sixty notes (1982) and trundled off into the distance

I drove a quarter of a mile over the brow of the hill and there in all its splendor was an ESSO service station :-)

I dumped the vehicle at the hotel entered the restaraunt for my posh on the company evening meal and it had shut, my collegues lounging about finishing their beers (barstewards), I had to find a local chippy as not eaten all day

I did get the sixty quid back eventually, and the price of my chippy, but it took a week and to be honest sixty quid in 1982 was half a weeks wages at least

I have never run out of fuel since, or depended on anyone (civvies) again

If you are a member of a breakdown service, then you can be charged if you call them out just for running out of fuel so take care

A Lesson well learned, I was most upset at missing the freee T-Bone steak to be honest, as on my wages I was living on spam fritters, egg and chips :-)

National aka Jack McHammocklashing

I used to go for 70 miles in my 100PD usually about 2 litres left - I wouldn't risk in my VRS 0 miles range is zero fuel!:D

When it says 0 you've got over 3l left in the tank, plus what's in the system. Easily get 50 miles from a zero reading as long as you take it steady.

Hope nobody trys and runs out on the motorway, it's illegal to go on there knowing you don't have enough fuel for the trip on there.

:)

oops.... didnt know that.... funny story a few years ago i went to glasgow with a friend, who has a small garage business, to buy a couple of cars at auction to cut a long story short i was driving a mk1 mondeo 1.8i up the road and missed my exit on the M80 and headed up to stirling services but ran out of petrol on the hard shoulder......  the funny thing is i dont remember seeing an orange petrol warning light....

About 35 to 40 miles. :o

Forced to after not coming across a station between Calais and the Belgium border.....

i seem to remember we weren't going that slow either ;)

15 for me
