brake fluid

Featured Replies

Not that I've changed the discs and the pads I'm thinking about changing the brake fluid.

I know Silkolene Pro Race 2000 is the mutts nutts but also quite expensive...around

I recall someone saying you need 4.1 rather than 4... could be other way around though.

4.1 prefered, DT sell it at 6-10 quid a litre, supposed to need 1.75 litres, but can't get all residue out etc...but adealer could. However the ones I have asked don't, instead saying they only needa litre to change.

4.1 is compat with existing stuff.

check pedals and usefull threads posts from RealSkoda, I think he mentions it in there.

Doh!.... Castrol High Performance brake fluid is dot4.1 .........same as dot4 but has a higher temperature boiling point.

Will check out RS' posts.

If I can find anything explaining how to change the fluid may have to get dealer to do it.

Castrol Response Super DOT4 or DOT4.1, Halford,

I had a look at Halfords this afternoon and the stiff from Castrol they had was DOT4. Didn't see any 4.1. What is the difference between the 2 anyway? Boiling temperature?

Kicking this one back into life, as I'd also like to know:-

1) What's needed to change it / how.

2) Do you need 1 or more thatn 1 litre ?

Yep...

anyone fancy posting a guide?

Is it DIY-able? or am i best leaving it to Awesome-GTI?

The 2 bottles look exactly the same, with a slight difference on the front label - very easy to miss (I nearly bought the wrong one!)

K (thanks  ) did mine yesterday and from watching him do it I'd say that it is tricky alone and best done with two pairs of hands. Took him an hour to do it, and this is with a fully equiped workshop available to him.

... Ok. That answers it for me !
