windscreen wipers scraped my bonnet!

Featured Replies

Always wondered how my car had gotten a 4-5 inch length of paint scraped off the edge of the bonnet nearest the windscreen. Spotted it a couple of days after getting the car, from new, but it didn't really bother me as a bit of touch up paint did the trick.

The other day I discovered how it happened! With the wipers in the vertical position and off the windscreen i.e the position for changing them and whilst washing the windscreen, I leant into the car to adjust the stereo and inadvertently pushed the wiper stalk down - result was wipers swooshed to the left, wiper arms smacked into the edge of the bonnet forcing them back ito the normal position but this time scraping 4-5 inches of paint off in the two points where the wipers came in contact with the bonnet!

Not the biggest problem I know, but unsightly none the less and a mistake I'll try not to make again!

It's known as a 'Gotcha' amongst other things. :(

And just for anyone wondering....

Windscreen Wiper Access

To get to the wiperblades, after having the ignition on, turn the ignition into the off position and pull down the wiper stalk. The wiper arms will move and stay in the full sweep position for you to clean/change the wipers. Putting the ignition back on and pushing the wiper switch down again sends the wipers back into their park position
