Spybot is quite good for a freebie. Just had a look at the site, it might not be free anymore

SpywareBlaster

SpywareGuard

I have actually had customers with a lot of problems with these 2, causing registry coruption and all sorts. Just thought you should know.

Been using them for a heck of a long time on several machines, never had any issues:P . (All running XP). Strange.

It is but you are only limited to 20 free fixes.

I use windows defender, on both my main pc and laptop. Main pc is XP 64, and laptop is Vista which comes with defender anyway. No issues to report with spyware.

Ad-Aware is also good, use that at work. For free you can only scan, if you want realtime then you need to pay.

At one point I had Spybot, Defender, Norton and PC Tools Spyware Doctor. The first 3 always found a few bits of spyware and adware but Spyware Doctor finds huge amounts more. Its first run on this Laptop found around 180 items and removed them all in a minute or two and with no problems either.

I now have it on my desktop too, it really is a very comprehensive prog and still easily outshines my Norton and Yahoo spyware thingys.

Mike,I woulld recommend Spybot, SpywareGuard, Spywareblaster, a-squared free edition and SuperAntiSpyware.

Most can be here...Wilders Security Forums - Powered by vBulletin

all of them are free and totally reliable.

I would suggest a decent temp files and cache cleaner too, such as CC-Cleaner, and couple that with MRUBuster...again all free.
