Can Fabia vRS seat covers be taken off?..

Featured Replies

... and put back easily for cleaning purposes? (i could stick them in the washer instead of paying someone a silly amount of money to maybe get them clean

They can but not easily, they are held to the foam by hog rings, this is not for the faint hearted and can be time consuming.

Bit of an old thread but what the hell.

Just decided to clean the rear seats so removed one of the bases took it into the flat then thought sod it can I just take the cover of and put it in the washing machine. Then I found these hog rings. :thumbdwn:

So the question. How do you remove the rings? Is it a plyers job?

Must be doable as that's how Seat Surgeons fitted my leather.....and it didn't take them that long.

Sorry I don't know about the pilers issue. But I did see on e-bay the other day a set of Fabia vRS seat covers. So must be possible.

Where the ring is doubled over pry it apart to open it up with a flat bladed screwdriver and long nosed pliers and you should be able to move it parallell to the seat wire and twist it around to release it.

Be careful not cut yourself as I should think that blood would be difficult to get off those covers.

These were the covers I received back from the company who fitted leather to my Furby and I put them on ebay hoping that someone who knew how to refit would be tempted. They did sell so it must be possible. IMO, I would think it would be a pretty involved task unless you were genned-up.

Its looks pretty simple if you have the right cools which I am tempted doing as my seats are :thumbdwn: Got all the stains of but they look a horrible grey colour.

When I did this job to repair the heated seat on SWMBO's Fabia I just cut the hog rings off and replaced them with small cable ties on re-assembly, much easier and worked fine.

I replaced the seat base cover on my Passat a few weeks ago as the heated seat packed up, and on the Passat the heated seat mat is stitched into the cover.

Just use long nosed pliers to open up the hog rings, and normal pliers to close them again.

If you've got patience its not a difficult job, but it is time consuming, and frustrating.

I sliced my finger open on a hog ring, they are lethal...
