What are the correct radio removal keys for the Symphony CD?

Featured Replies

The diagram in the Haynes manual looks like the VW Beta-Gamma type (although the ones they're using in the photo look different!) and a search of the threads on here suggest either something more like the VW Sony style or Kenwood (of which there are 3 types on the ipodcarkitdirect website). Must admit I've not actually asked my Skoda dealer yet but several people on here have mentioned that they're not supposed to sell them.

junior hacksaw blades work fine and dandy

Or you can ram some Pioneer keys in like i did and it works a charm :D

I've tried a few times to get some from a dealer but he won't let me order any. Even with a part number!!!!

I have since found out which bits of trim to remove so you can use 2 flatblade screwdrives to remove it.

However, it's quite involved so i'd exhaust all avenues of obtaining the keys first (plus you run less risk of damaging the trim every time you want the headunit out).

Cheekily i went into halfrauds asked the question what removes them, the bloke didnt know so i asked if i could take a few out to try. Ended up taking one of the blanking 'plates' above the radio out to get a good hold. Got the bloke to help me and when it was out, gave the keys back, said thank you. He asked did i want to buy them, i politely said, that i now had no need for them and buggered off.

I asked in Halfords too and the guy fished some out that the fitting department use. They don't sell them but he said just give us a shout if you need the stereo removing. Very good, but not convenient if I want to take the stereo out myself sometime.

I've found some on Ebay that the seller claims fits the Skoda Fabia's stereo. When I get them I'll report back whether they work ok. ;)

The Kenwood ones do the job just fine and can be bought from Halfrauds (about £4 IIRC). I used mine on it and they worked a treat.

Just do as an earlier poster suggested and get your self a junior hacksaw blade. Snap it in 2, put the snapped ends into each slot and then wiggle the stereo out, it's easy and can be removed in less than a minute.
