Creaky Staircase

Featured Replies

My 02 vrs has a creak. Not a little creak, a really noisy creak. Every speed ramp, pot hole, bump in the road, the whole front end sounds like an old staircase. When I park up and get out i get a little creak then too. I know my rad mounts are shot, however I can distinguish the noise that makes. I had the ARBs done about six months ago just for the sake of trying to cure the problem, but its getting progressively worse and louder. Seems to be ok when first taking off after she's been standing for a day or so, then gradually gets noisier over the next few miles. Took her down to Midland VW but im told its a case of elimination, however I dont realy want to be changing bushes willy nilly, and I'm told that a worst case scenario could be a creaky shocker.

Has anybody else had this same problem? Is a duff shocker a possibility?

Nothing usually annoys me but this is getting right on my pip and heads are turning for the wrong reasons...

just an update, i got a mate to bounce up and down on the suspension while i listened underneath and the noise appeared to come from the drivers side. after a bit of prodding and more bouncing i held tight onto the ARB bushes and the bush itself is juddering in its mount, i guess its just a little greasing required, however i thought these come pre greased, and if they are shot, they rattle?? im wondering if there is some corrosion to the ARB where it fixes to the bush and its wearing off the grease? do i need a new ARB or can it just be polished up?

I had the same noise going over speed humps, changed the ARB bushes and all is sorted, should just be able to smooth out any corrosion(go carefully!)

Common and known problem.

New arb bushes are usually required and sometimes a new arb too if it has been left too long.
