VRS pricing will fall?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Dont mean to sound negetive but will the price of VRS drop a fair amount when the new fabias are out? I was hoping it'll land £6k-ish near sept for a 03/ 04 plate under 40k miles.. Just thought i'd give myself a nice 21st birthday present thats all..

I see some are around £7k atm under 40k miles... but its a bit over my savings budget atm

I cant really sleep and i was just thinking about shall i get another fabia for my birthday or shall i change.. but if i change i wont get the most value for money 'power'* car on the market atm.

*meaning enough for me to play and not kill thay-self and not let insurance or running costs kill my wallet either

finally.. anyone wanna swap a 1.4 8v plus 3k for a vrs? hehe  (always worth a try..!)

They will certainly fall when the new vRS is released, but thats not for a year.

Considering that they are no longer being made (i think I am correct on this?) I think the prices should hold up.

Agreed. until the new vRS next year expect the prices to remain firm. This will also be the case now as the new car supply dries up, prices will become very stable.

this is very naive advice im afraid. This car will certainly loose value due to it being a lease car/comp car favourite they are starting to come into the auctions now and will continue, this in turn will only have one impact on used car prices and its downwards only.

Remember that the vRS UK production is 12,000 cars thats a lot of Fabia vRS's along with the fact the lease cars will be selling them off to the auctions private owners will of course be changing their cars due to a change in circumstance/some always change their car every 3 years or even less some people dont want to own a car without Manufact Warrenty. Etc etc.

Trust me on this you go onto any forum and those rose tinted glasses are firmly on. Cars especially mainstream cars are a depreciating asset - if you suddenly think your £8k car in 12 months time with 12k extra wear & tear has no impact to its resale value you are very much mistaken.

Look no further than the E36 M3's and M3 Evo's they are mainstream cars which have now hit new lows of £3k+ these cost £35k+ new and are certainly perceived by most petrol heads as classic. Look at the E46's M3 values these have been out of production quite a while now and the V8 M3 will not be out in the Uk until nearly 2008 yet prices for the M3 E46 is certainly not holding its dropping like horse shYt due to the supply of them - note much fewer than 12,000 units.

Keep dreaming.

In comparison to other cars, I think you'll find the VRs will hold their value pretty well. Residuals are currently around 50% after 3 years which is very good. There are not that many on the roads (in comparison to its rivals) and whilst demand remains high values won't drop too much. Whether or not values take a big hit when the new VRs arrives very much depends on how popular the new car is.

Just remember that it's all relative - you're never going to make money on a car (unless you keep it long enough for it to become a classic car!).

Ok so take the list £12k and you say 50% after 3 years so that means the 04 vRS's should be now £6k by the plate change to 08 it is going to be much lower than £6k maybe £4.8k

Ive not checked the number of CTR's Clio Sport 172's Pug206 HDI etc etc to see how they compare volume wise, in addition some models will have longer or shorter lives. So I cannot comment but 12,000+ for the top of the range model is quite high.

So age wear & tear lease companys dumping cars into auctions people trading up to a newer car and the new model coming out & competition of rivals will certainly hit the used car values.

Id say the biggest hit will be the x Fleet cars remember these have prooved to be very cheap to run on comp car tax and many people will have selected it for the tax savings primarily.

The vRS price will remain steady for the next year, but like Welshy said, they will certainly loose value all the time, meaning they won't go down too fast.

Interesting thing though, the Fabia vRs actually gained a small amount in the Parker book a few months ago.

Took mine back to the garage and they offered me £7,500 for mine and it had 42,000 on the clock, that was £500 more than the Parker book said, chap told me they can't get hold of them fast enough and they do shift from the dealers fairly fast.

What's going to hammer the next price for mine will be the miles.

Should have swapped it in really, but chose not too. could be a mistake later on.

They disappear from the dealers so fast it's frightening. People are also paying asking price for them too it would seem.....supply and demand I guess.

What puzzles me though is that I don't see that many kicking about even though loads are being bought. Is some mysterious South American drug baron buying them all up and shipping them abroad?

surely the price is as much as what someone wants to pay for it, not something that is set in stone ?

so if there are fewer around, and people are prepared to pay more to get one, the price goes up (or doesn't drop as much)

I suppose the dealers don't have to discount them too much, they know they can sell then no trouble so helping out the price a bit.

True. If you don't buy one, there'll be someone else along in 5 minutes who will.

I wanted a silver one and they were being snapped up so fast it was crazy. Red ones were the only ones the dealers tended to have for any long.

The vRS is picking up in terms of popularity though. I would guess that people are getting over the Skoda stigma and looking at it for what it is...more talented than the badge would suggest.

Lets not get carried away here its a city car with the VW Parts bin 1.9 TDI 130 & it looks nicer & sportier than a std Fabia model.

Thing is though if you want the TDI130 as cheap as possible go for either the Bora or the Passat both I think you will agree are much more premium than the Fabia in every way - except identical engine.

One thing which does make me lol is that everyone believes the sales men.... oh its selling so darn fast we cannot get them quickly enough. Well hes never going to tell you were struggling to shift her are they. Also if you go past a dealer and see one there and a few days/week later its gone you may think its sold - not quite true all dealers who have more than one dealership in their company will rotate stock this benefits each dealership as it instantly gives the impression that cars are selling. Sole dealerships move the cars around on the forecourt/put some round the back and bring others out same trick.

However if you lot are that worried that you cannot get one pop down the auctions there are loads there - yes milage will be higher but you paying a lot less for it. You can argue that you wouldnt touch a comp car as it would have been driven hard... um same could be said about any car high milage in a short period of time would have to mean motorway driving which means clutch/brakes/engine would be in very good condion

i have just traded my 04 plate silver fabia vrs in and got a good price for it for a 05 plate black one so i think it all depends on where you go aswell as the above mentioned stuff

Question for you:-

Why did you change your 04 for an 05? Was it purely the colour reason or did your car have a problem which was expensive to fix?

What other difference is there excl colour & max 12 months age between the two cars + what was the cost of this "Upgrade"?

I always have a laugh at Welshy's pessimism and baiting but there are some valid points in amongst it all. There are indeed more and more appearing on the second hand market. There are 4 for sale at my local dealer. It is a one site dealership so if a car doesn't sell it sits there and 3 of them have sat there a fair old while now. Perhaps it's because the ltd edition is there for only marginally more than they are punting out used cars for?

Those that think the Fabia is some form of infallible car that should be placed upon a pedestal really should take a long hard look at themselves. It is the case that car forums are full of anal, rose-tinted blinker wearing, fanatical souls that can't see past the end of their bonnets but the fact that they are willing to defend every last detail oftheir car like a knight in shining armor really is quite sad.

The prices will fall, fact. It would appear it is more the dealers who are proping the prices up at the moment but that can only last so long.

I am glad I bought my vRS, I enjoy the car and like the fact that I am saving money long term against my old car but lets just all accept that it isn't the best car the planet has ever seen, prices will go down and the sooner it happens the sooner it will become the next boy racers car and suffer as many other small hatches have in the past.

I think one of two things will happen:

1: Prices will tumble pretty sharpish from this point onwards - the Fabia's an old car, there are a lot of vRS's about & it's been discontinued. :thumbdwn:

2: As new supply nears zero used prices will become firmer (or even increase).

Guess we'll see soon enough eh...

I think the other thing which will impact it (slightly) is the added tax burden & the fact that the C02 emmissions for it will get no cleaner and in time cars will get more powerfull & less polluting.

I think the oldest cars in a few (2) years time will hit £4k and maybe £3.8k and from that point onwards it will depreciate at a much slower rate maybe £500-600 per year. Of course when you get down to these lower prices service history etc all dont really effect its value that much its really only the condition of the vehicle.

The savy amongst us will buy a 125k+ mile car (just had its 2nd cam belt) and run it for 3 years it will be peanuts to run and the expensive costs have all just passed.

(or even increase).

Is the sky still blue up there on planet SteVRs ? ;):D

I think - have always thought - that Welshy is on a personal scaremongering mission so that everyone will drop their trade-in / private sale expectations so he can get one cheap.

Time will tell as to values.............

With there being no new ones available it's a possibility in the short term.

I don't own one though so I don't care

For someone who doesn't own a Fabia and who clearly thinks they're not up to much (the VAG partsbin comments spring to mind whenever anyone tries 'bigging up' the Fabia) he spends a lot of time on here and also keeps asking about when their prices will fall.

So, for a car that's clearly so naff and the dealers are clearly complete robdogs, why the interest in buying one? Been banned from the Fiat forums for excessive pessimism?

The VRs should certainly hold it's value better than my last car. In 4 years the value of my Peugeot 406 GTX dropped from £19,000 to £3,600. Now that is serious depreciation!! I bought my VRS when it was one year old with 3,000 miles on the clock and made a good saving. I'm planning to keep the car for many years to come so depreciation is not really an issue for me. However I think that most VRs owners are going to be pretty happy with their cars residual values.

As for the comment about getting a Bora or Passat... why pay more for a car with a VW badge?

Think Welshy's point (and I know he'll correct me if I'm wrong :) ) was that you're not paying more - because these two depreciate more steeply than the Fabia vRS, in principle you could pick up a better example of either with the same engine for less than the Fabia vRS.

Or, to rephrase...why pay more for a car with a Skoda badge? :D

Would agree it's a different matter if talking new prices...

Rob.

They are really rare in my local area... no skoda dealers that close, and the nearest are selling 3 year old ones for over

Just traded my 54 plate vRS with 50,000 miles on the clock for
