AC flap motors problems

Featured Replies

I'm constantly getting the following faults:

01271 - Positioning Motor for Temperature Flap (V68)

30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent

01271 - Positioning Motor for Temperature Flap (V68)

41-10 - Blocked or No Voltage - Intermittent

01271 - Positioning Motor for Temperature Flap (V68)

28-10 - Short to B+ - Intermittent

01271 - Positioning Motor for Temperature Flap (V68)

29-10 - Short to Ground - Intermittent

I was told I had the motors and the AC control unit changed under warranty - unfortunately wasn't present in the garage during the job. It's been 2 years from then and the AC is still not working properly.

Three symptoms:

1. It randomly blows hot air when it's set to cold, and the recirculation shuts off randomly as well.

2. I am never getting sufficiently cold air from the vents with AC off. On the average it blows 6 degrees C warmer air than outside temperature (one of the flaps never completely closed/opened?). Only on one occasion the temperature was as I would expect it to be. It was just after I had the ducts cleaned with some sort of spray/foam. A LONG tube was inserted DEEP in the central vents, which IMHO moved one of the flaps to the position it should be in anyway. A few day after that the 6 degree shift in temperature came back. The adaptation was done numerous times.

3. With AC and recirculation off, and the blower on, the air in the cabin gets too moist IMO.

I assume that the symptom 1 is caused by a motor or wiring fault, and the symptoms 2 and 3 are caused by the same mechanical fault. I assume there is an obstacle or a mechanical fault preventing one of the flaps (probably recirculation/fresh air flap) to close completely. Am I on the right track?

I'm afraid I may need to take it ALL apart :( - I'm looking for DIY instructions on removing the dash, replacing the motors, and inspecting the flaps and ducts. Can anybody help?

Is it possible to tell whether the motors have actually been replaced or not (SN or make year printed on the motors perhaps)? I wasn't happy with that garage at all, so I'm really suspicious...

Is it possible that the motors are OK, but the flaps jammed/damaged mechanically? I guess not likely, since the temperature changes rapidly, meaning the flaps actually move....

Could the fault be caused by defective wiring, and not the motors? Any way to test the wiring?

I get the same as your symptom 1 and possibly 2 but I've only had the car since November so not really driven it on a hot day.

There is a known issue (search on the forum) where the flaps stick but I don't think that this is my problem because the air is fine, then will blow hot all of a sudden. Most times it goes back cool after a while.

Switching the air-con and and off sometimes helps.

Have you tried the solution here http://http://www.fabia-vrs.com/coding_options.htm?

I assume that the grille close by the air-con/recirc buttons is a temperature sensor. Could it be a fault with this that's causing the problem?
