Noise when opening drivers door

Featured Replies

I currently own a Mk 1 silver vrs and was wondering what the wurring noise was when I open the drivers door. It sounds like it is a pump priming itself. Does anyone know what it is and why it does it when you open the drivers door? I am assuming at the moment that it is the fuel pump is this correct? Why do other makes of car not make this noise when the drivers door is opened?

Also along the lines of other threads in this forum my drivers side door locks are playing up (will not open on the key fob). The other fault I have is not with the windows but the door mirrors (the heated element on the drivers door mirror does not work and you can not adjust it, which ever way the switch is turned it moves the passenger mirror).

My solution was to buy a new car!!!!! (not the cheapest but certainly looking forward to getting my Race Blue Octavia Mk 2 VRS TDi in 2 weeks time- although that will then mean that I will have to leave this part of the forum for the other side!!!).

it's the fuel line's priming ready to start the car you are correct

it also periodically primes if you leave the drivers door open :)

Cheers for the replies. You learn something new everyday!!! Still not sure why Skoda do it this way since most other companies have the pump prime when you turn the ignition. Must just be one of those vagueries of manufacture/design. I wonder if my new vrs will do the same thing.

It was one of the first things I noticed when I bought my vrs. Good to read a definate answer, it's what I thought it was.

I am sure that on my gf Felicia Diesel it starts the glowplug timer when opening the drivers door....
