Glovebox creaking

Featured Replies

Hi,

My glovebox makes a sort of low creaking or rattling noise when closed. Has anyone come across this? I am tempted to take it apart to see what the problem is.

Thanks

Trevor

Steve (Makefish) has suffered with this Trevor.

I also had this. Dealer replaced the lid under warranty and it seems to have fixed it. Just have to get the rest sorted.

Many thanks. Will get onto them so about it.

I have a strange rattling noise, but only when the car is running slow in a high gear. As this is extremely difficult to maintain with the DSG I have not been able to identify the source of the rattle.

My oddments tray (bottom right of wheel) rattles like buggery now and I have an annoying rattle / knock coming from the tailgate area, seems to be coming from near the wiper motor. Both have appeared in the last thousand miles.

i fixed mine by tightining all the screws up i could see

My glovebox rattles slightly on cold mornings, but is ok once the car has either been driven a bit or if left in the sun. This is the only rattle that I currently have.

As Stu says, I was afflicted with the very same problem and had it fixed under warranty but it did'nt require a new glovebox, just a minor realignment and all was well  .

Just as a footnote, I have had the glovebox out three times since the fix and as yet have yet to experience any creaking again so it looks like I'm an expert in 'glovebox removal' ;) .

I think I'll fix this myself rather than going to the dealers.

I'd be afraid the whole lot would come apart if I took it out. Does it come out in one piece ?

Btw @ Flynntech pop the cover on the side of the dash, have a look at the little rack & pinion mechanism for the open of the glovebox. I found mine a bit loose when it was closed, I think I put some padding in behind it. Might save you taking the whole glovebox out. If you do remove it take some pics, like you excellent Tow Bar Post
